Eta 2846 pinion height

Kinda hard to tell from your fuzzy pic but the end looks rounded so it was probably that way on purpose.  Some sweep hands have long "tubes" so can use a short pin like that.

Normally the cannon pin and 4th wheel need to be higher if the dial has the really tall markers like the vintage stick DJ dials but on others, like Roman markers, the standard works fine.

I would say on an ETA, for dials with dates and as JMB mentioned, dials with high stick markers best cannon pinion would be H4.

On builds with no date dials, best cannon pinion height is the H3. H2 height is an absolute compromise, would work but aint correct.

The two occasions (H4 & H3) give a gen spec distance from the dial.

Are all eta 2846's like this with a recessed pinion?

Impossible to install seconds hand without touching the minute.

As others have pointed out, there are a number of different factory configurations. It's only "recessed" if you install a tall hour wheel and cannon pinion. There are 2836s with this configuration as well, not all (or even most) 2836s are H4s.
