Man, that really hurts!!. I lost all my emails from mid 2012 to March of this year in a computer crash. Crazy, because all from around 2006 to 2012 were there?? You never realize how important those old messages are until they are gone.

Going forward don't use POP3 but IMAP instead and the emails will stay on the mail server.

If you have an Apple product you can backup all your data on ICloud. Works like a charm. I traded my iPhone 6+ for my fourth phone of the same iPhone 6 and the back up downloaded into the new one so easily it's amazing. All photos messages mail music etc. everything in 5 minutes. I don't know about backup on other devices but this fix makes Apple a good choice despite the idyocyncracies.
