good idea pugwash. i'm curious -- is there anything you need to do to make raw picture files wallpaper compatible (i realize this is a total noob question)?

Nope. You just need to make sure they're the right size. The minimum is 1024x768, and the maximum is 1920x1200, and as long as the picture is the exact size of a known screen size, it'll be useful to someone. I tend to make them 1280x960 as a rule.
