Where to get 20mm Black Rubber Strap for 4th Gen PO

14060 or 16610?

Recommended Posts

What do you mean by "it only fits certain 42mm... models"? Are you saying there are different 42mm models out there with different dimensions? I thought as long as the strap had the rubber locating pins then it would fit just fine? My 42mm has the locating holes drilled into the case along with 2 sets of springbar holes (for both SS bracelet and rubber strap I presume).

I just re-read this part of your post, and hadn't picked up on it the first time... If your PO already has the locating holes in the case, then you wouldn't need to remove the guide-pin on the strap like I did, so that, in conjunction with the second set of springbar holes, should mean you should be able to get the SMP strap to fit without gaping away from the case. The rubber straps are much cheaper than the SS Bracelets. Admitedly, it's your money, but, knowing it has the 2nd set of springbar holes and the locating holes between the lugs, personally, I would risk it :)

Is this the 20mm Planet Ocean strap with the off-round notch holes and 7mm buckle tongue, or the 20mm Seamaster strap with the rectangular notch holes and the 10mm buckle tongue?

You're right!!!! This is a SEAMASTER strap not for the PO.---Notch holes are rectangular and markings are "Omega" and "Seamaster". Have contacted TWA and await his respose.

I had a hunch it might be the Seamaster strap rather than the Planet Ocean strap. The Planet Ocean strap, in addition to the different shaped notch holes and different size tongue on the buckle, has the markings "Seamaster Planet Ocean" on the inside (Planet Ocean is under Seamaster) I'll be most interested to hear the response and if they have any other suggestions :)

This was the reply: What do you think? H.

it is made for the 42mm PO with the locator holes.

Smp does not have the locator holes.

my supplier sent it to me for a PO. he just happened to send the wrong width.

have you tried it yet?

I cannot comment until you have tried to put it on.

both straps look very similar with out a 42mm PO in my hand i cannot say what will happen until

That's not a very promising reply... from reading Ofrei.com, I would say do not try the strap at all, or they could try and refuse a return on the grounds of it being 'used merchandise'. The straps look vaguely similar, but the differences between the two are also quite distinct. If your dealer is in any doubt, you might want to show them these pictures ;)

Guys:

The problem is that the "SMP Strap" is the one being sold on just about every rep of the PO with rubber. In fact, it is only after reading this thread that I found out that they were SMP and not the ones used on PO's.

I haven't closely checked the new Casino Royale Ultimate 22mm PO with rubber yet, but wouldn't be surprised at all if same style strap as the one for "SMP"

I have a black rubber one in 20mm that I picked up for my PO and guess what? It is the SMP style too. I honestly do not care as once on the wrist it looks fine to me.

I also just sold an auto version (4th gen?) of a 45mm Orange bezel PO that came with this same style strap in Orange, was never worn and came with that strap when I got it new.

My point is this: don't beat up on TWA because he sold you the 42mm strap for your PO and this is the style you received. Most of us think (or thought) of this style as the one that comes with the watch-and that includes the Asian suppliers-as this is what comes on the reps we get. For most of us there would be no reason to check to see it holes were different or other things because cosmetically--where it meets the watch head, it looks the same as the photos of the real deal on the Omega site or other gens I have seen pics of.

Also, is a rep version of the correct PO style even available in 20mm? if not, then this is the only alternative out there.

TWA is a great guy and a positive contributor to the RWI board. I do not think cutting and pasting his PM's here in an open forum is cool at all. It really shows a lack of maturity on your part at this stage of the game in your trying to work things out with him.

Telling him the strap does not fit on your watch, without trying it on, would of course result in his response to "try it on"--especially if he has seen many PO's with this same strap in the first place. He might think you are a newbie and just simply do not know how to fit the strap to the watch.

Try to think about what the other fellow is thinking and not just yourself when negotiating and you will probably have better results.

Misunderstanding with the dealerTWA) He was unaware the straps were different and the situation has been amicably rectified. Clearly an honest mistake and I would not have any hesitation dealing with him again. His response was immediate and situation corrected.

I quite agree with the sentiments of that, but, the fact remains, that these watches are replicas, and at some point, the manufacturer's must have gotten their hands on a gen watch for study. I quite agree, it is possible to fit the SMP strap to the PO, but it is not a 100% perfect fitting. As I've said before, for the moment, I can live with the gape at the case because the strap itself is so damn comfortable, and to be honest, I have more important bills to pay than spending $189 on a watch strap. But. That does not make the strap correct. I guess my point is if the manufacturers had a gen watch to study, how did none of them realize that they were replicating the wrong strap? If that is all a dealer has seen from the manufacturer's, that's all they'll know. Doesn't make them personally a liar, because they are simply telling the truth as they know it. The true 'fault' lies with the manufacturers who did not sufficiently research the strap's details.
