Tribal
Hello Guys, I replaced the Glass on My 1680 with a gen Tropic 127 And i must say that was a hard job to do it,because i have no Crystalpress..... I sarted to lift up the retaining Ring like Ubi do (Ubi thank you for that).... I took a razorblade to pull up the retaining ring,i pulled around the hole retaining ring... That was an easy job, after i put off the Ring there was no gasket between the case and the ring I put of the old glass, that was easy, also installing the gen one.... I put a gasket between the case and the retaining ring and pushed the ring down....... .... nothing, i pressed with a plastic ring that matched the case with the Retaing ring ....nothing,not 1mm. After that i took a screw clamp to push it down and it works... Man, if you don't have the right tools its so difficult to do this..... I think thats my next purchase.... Ok hard work but its done.... and here the result.... Damm i love this Vintage Rollies...... Next step is to install a Gen Tub and Crown Hope you like ,opinions are welcome........... ubiquitous
Excellent work! Sorry I did not get you the pics to show the process of removing the retaining ring- None the less, it looks like you got it done regardless BTW- Here is what I use to press my rings back on... The case is an old Omega Sea-Master (176.007). Fits the retaining rings and crystal perfect!
leitztozeiss
That is what I need . . . a press. Tribal are you going to install a gasket? I don't know if you saw my THREAD, but I also found that my 1680 lacked a gasket. I bought one on eBay from Helflands last night, so hopefully mine arrives next week. Ubi, I'm going to try to find a PVC pipe of the correct diameter and cut to length to serve as a press ring along with a C-clamp.
