Who are these guys on eBay?

Lately i've been seeing a lot of weird usernames on ebay.. names like

m***n

i***l

d***y

Who are these people bidding on all these watches and parts? Or is this some sort of hidden username thing?

Whats with the "***"?

I was trying to buy a PAM strap and a gen rolex tube and these guys with names like this kept outbidding me

Anyone know?

At first I thought they were "private" bidders, but the bay doesn't even list part of their name. I personally think they are used to drive up the price. The item can always be relisted.

yeah thats possible.. seems weird.. or maybe a group of franken builders buying up gen parts.. i'd like to know though

The *** is used to keep names private. Their actual user names don't have *** AFAIK.

i recently saw on some auctions that real usernames appear untill a certain price...than after it in their usernames appear the ****...I am sure about it because i saw this in one auction where a person bid (who i know) and then when the auction came to a certain amount of $ or to a certain time to the end...his name was transformed with the ***...
