collector21 Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 Does anyone make a really good rep of the IWC Big Pilot?
longshot Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 I think this is the best you can do Asian automatic that does not hack or handwind, but mine is running great. Incorrect display back, date wheel is in the wrong place and too small and wrong shape, power reserve does not work and the crown does not screw down. But on a good strap it's pretty impressive on the wrist and that huge crystal does have AR coating! I'm 99% sure Joshua can get one in black or white dial.
sevomd Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 Personally I think they overdid it with the AR on this one. I ahve one from Joshua, and the feel of it is so flimsy. No heft to it at all. But what can you expect from a 100$ watch. Eddy
TmeShare Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 (edited) The IWC Big Pilot rep above is as good as they get for now. Another alternative with a better feel and weight is the Poljot Aviator which has the same case size and crown as the IWC but the dial is very different and the illumination is weak. By the way, the illumination on the IWC shown in the post above is very good. TimeShare Edited May 29, 2006 by TmeShare
kasigi Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 And there's a nice strap here.. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=5562 *wink* K.

My biggest issue is the flimsy feel of the crown, but I think I read somewhere that it's possible to drop an ETA in it and with a little higher beat/smoother sweep and some tweaking by The Zigmeister I think it could be a very sweet rep. I have the same strap on mine that's posted for sale and it's far nicer than the rep strap BTW
Bignasty Posted May 29, 2006 Report Posted May 29, 2006 Two big hold ups on the current BP reps. And no its not the date window. Lack of Sapphire crystal. Can't stand mineral crystal reps. When they get scratched, and they always do, its a dead giveaway. :yucky: And of course the Asian 21J sucks in my opinion! Jon
collector21 Posted May 30, 2006 Author Report Posted May 30, 2006 Thank you, gentlemen! (Well, it seems that it's time to go back to that Archimede gen....)
olreon Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 (edited) hello this is making me realy sad. there is no accurate rep of the big pilot. rep makers can´t you hear us!!!! best wishes olreon Edited May 30, 2006 by olreon
Dario33 Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 Hopefully we will see a more accurate rep of this sometime this year. I love the watch, but don't want to pay $100 for a half-assed rep, IMO.
Quarks Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 From Josh..... looks awesome but the weight is simply not there. Gonna sell it soon.....
chris5264 Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 I had the 100 dollar version myself and it just didn't do it for me. It looked good but that was about it. I ended up getting the azimuth bombardier which I'm totally into. This could be a rationalization but I actually like it better than the IWC because of the simple dial.
chris5264 Posted June 3, 2006 Report Posted June 3, 2006 Where did you get that strap for the Azimuth? It was from international watchman, pretty nice for 15 bucks (usd). I took some sand paper to it and cut the ends, it was a 24mm and the Azimuth is 22.
Dutch Posted June 3, 2006 Report Posted June 3, 2006 It's $15 well spent, really nice vintaged look. Thinking of getting a B-uhr myself. Only problem is finding one reasonbly priced which has the correct looks. A gen costs way to much.
sevomd Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Just got this on ebay for my BP. Hated the rep strap, so never saw wrist time. I am also toying wit the idea of dropping in an ETA. Eddy
Dutch Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Laco, one of the brands who manufactured the real 'B-uhren' during WW2 is coming with a new 55mm 'vintage' model. Only 500 will be produced and will cost about €2500.
mossanti Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 I have the BP..but the rep is not that good...i l ike the size tho..i will make my own strap for bp soon..the rep's st rap looks ugly n dont feel right.. that 55m up there is really awesome
dadog13 Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 since there is no good rep...here you go with a ice Wallpaper....enjoy!
slpf Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 ......Here is my BP http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=813 with a little better caseback Cheers
