I'm on the verge of giving up on my daytona 6265

I've had my dw daytona for three weeks now. I removed the mystery sh** machine and now my watch is left with a void to fill. I have desperately looked for a donor but yet to find one. I'm getting tired of being completely consumed by this watch. types of movts with the correct sudial spacing and dimensions are limited to what...3 or something for this watch. I'm too the point almost were i will settle for another mystery movt.

I need some help and you guys are the only ones who know the vintage daytonas the best. Not trying to over dramatize this..but I'm at point where I don't know what to do..I want my daytona working..I know about the gen 23 option and 72..but sourcing them is too time consuming for my everyday scedule..

If I may offer my advice, and I'm speaking from the heart here: This project is not for you. Assembling one of these requires the patience of Job, and you must be prepared for disappointments along the way. (For me, it was an 18 month quest - but of course parts and information were not so readily available back then. At times, I was foraging into the unknown, whereas today, many of the answers can be easily found).

My suggestion would be to sell the DW (you should be able to recoup your original investment, even with the problem movement). Then, if you're still afflicted with the Daytona bug, keep your eyes open for a completed watch (perhaps considering one of the 7750/7760 models).

Dice,

If you don't have the time, patience or inclination to source a VJ23 (that is all that will fit in a DW mystery movement model) then Avitt is right -sell it. Perhaps see if DW has any more complete VJ72 Daytonas that he was offering not long ago, but be prepared to pony up for it, they're not cheap.

I mostly agree with Avitt and tmg. Constructing one of these watches is nerve-wracking, at best, and the road to nirvana is filled with numerous potholes. But I know how you feel because an accurate vintage Daytona has been my grail watch for decades, and the appeal of this particular siren can be all-consuming at times. Unfortunately, your only alternative with that case is a Valjoux movement and these are both rare & expensive birds. I will tell you the same thing Avitt once told me -- Stick with it & you will eventually find one. But it takes time, patience & commitment and the pricing on these things seems to go up faster than the cost of oil on the open commodities market.

Hi diceman,

Agree with avitt and tmg.

My personal experience, I bought two DW with mystery movement and keep them for months.

When I wanted to wear one, they both broke the same day.

So, I keep them in the watch box for many more months until two VJ23s came on the bay to replace the movements.

The DW VJ72 kit is the best way to go.

Best,

P

One thing DW is really hard to get to. I have been communicating with him for ages and my orders came always in pieces, incomplete and incorrect. He wants money for it everytime, when it is his fault that thing where wrongfully picked. SOmehow he is the only dealer my stuff got completely confiscated according to him but tracking numbers never worked... I have serious doubt with this guy. I managed to get one complete set but it cost me three times the initial offering and it is not worth the hassle. My advise... try to buy a set from a member here... and source your vj72 form a local watch specialist (ebay is to expensive and risky. Once the watch is complete it is really nice and you forget tha hassle.
