Any concert goers out there?

So my buddy and I were going over the list of shows that we have attended over the years. He made up a list, and I made up a list as well. I'm sure I've forgotten a few in a drunken stupor. Some of these acts I've seen on numerous occasions, either they were opening for another act, headlining, or at a festival. I've seen some great shows over the years. Many of my favorites have been in small clubs. I remember seeing The Strokes play a small club with only about 90 people in the room.... then seeing them again at Radio City Music Hall.

Anyway, here is the list. Many I'm sure most have never heard of.

No Led Zep? ;)

No, they were a bit ahead of my time. I was only 10 when Bonham died and when they last toured.

I did see Jimmy Page in a bar though, he wasn't playing, just hanging out.

Hopefully if Robert turns around, they will tour after their one off show. :thumbsupsmileyanim:

I am a huge concert goer and have been for 25 years. I don't know if my list is quite this long (I have gone to Bonnaroo twice and Lollapalooza once, so my list is pretty long).

Claims to fame:

Saw The Grateful Dead 40 time)

Saw Stevie Ray Vaughn at his last performance before dying in a helicopter crash

Saw the following acts backstage-Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Flaming Lips, Sonic Youth, Yes)

I've probably been to 250 concerts over the past 25 years.

Current favorite acts to see live:

My Morning Jacket (by a wide margin)

WILCO

The Decemberists

Ryan Adams (if he's in a good mood)

The Flaming Lips

Tours I'm looking forward to in 2008

My Morning Jacket, Lenny Kravitz, and Jack Johnson

You've seen some good shows! I missed MMJ, they played a small club and I didn't go... bummer. Would like to see them. Wilco is always a great show as are the Lips!

I've met a fair amount of artists and partied with a few, and I definately do not get out as much as I used to. And hearing protection is always a must now. Gotta save what hearing I have left!

Read on...

It has also been reported Led Zeppelin will tour with '80s rock powerhouse The Cult next year. According to MTV, Cult frontman Ian Astbury let the news slip during a concert in Cincinnati, Ohio.

"We'll be back next year because we're opening for a band you may have heard of... The name starts with an 'L' and has a 'Z' in it."

When a fan shouted, "Led Zeppelin?" Astbury nodded to confirm the fan's guess, and raised his arm in the air.

I don't alway remember to bring plugs. I regret it when I get home and my ears are ringing. I already have an excuse for not "listening" to my wife :D

MMJ is a MUST see. Best live act period. Saw them at Lollapalooza this year with the Chicago Youth Symphony. Sixth time in four years.

I've just recently started as I've been noticing my ears ringing more and more, and not just from concerts.

Someone told me that the ringing that you hear in your ears is the actual frequency that is soon to be lost. Kind of a last scream as you will never hear that frequency again. I don't know how true that is, but it sure as hell got me wearing plugs.

Stilty,

That's an impressive list...I wish I could remember all the ones I've seen.

However, I'll just post some of my favorites.

To begin, I've worked with a small touring band (in the past) that I will not mention...due to personal reasons.

Plus, I've been on tour with Pantera, Slayer, and a couple of other bands not really worth mentioning.

Now, I'm the web developer and administration for a local music scene...it seems I see a lot of bands on a weekly basis.

But, now on to some oldie but goodies...

My first big arena at 12 yrs old: Journey and Foghat

Best I've seen live: Scorpions. (at Monster's of Rock, Houston)

Ozzy and Sabbath a few times.

Robin Trower

Stevie Ray Vaughn

Aretha Franklin

James Brown

Metallica (old)

Kiss

Allman Brothers

Ted Nugent

Crowbar

Down

COC

Judas Priest a few times

ZZ Top

Jethro Tull

Red Hot Chili Peppers

James Taylor

Grateful Dead

AC/DC

Van Halen

...hundreds of small arena or club bands.

Those are just a few that really stand out in my mind.

I now suffer from Menieres Disease and it could be related to the number of concerts I've been to and the fact I spent the 80s with headphones in my ears.

There are certain frequencies I can not hear in one of my ears, like if I pick up a phone to my right ear, I only hear certain harmonics of the dial tone (on certain phones) yet when my ears are tested in a controlled environment, my hearing is "excellent".

So yes, I recommend earplugs for the loud ones.

ps. I too am not going to mention all the gigs I've been to for privacy reasons. I have family/friends in some lesser-known local bands.

Im not a big concert goer at all, i prefer a small band in a bar but if Led Zep tours i will have to see it. When i was building my bar in the garden for months on end my daughter would want to be there with me and she always fell asleep when stairway played. I would love to see this live.

Just 40 times? I managed to rack up about 60 shows in the late 80's and early 90's. It is nice to run into another 'Head' as we are becoming an extinct breed. Some most memorable runs where 91' @ The Garden, 89' Alpine Valley, 95' The Omni and The Pyramid, and naturally Solider Field for the final shows. If you would ever like to

reminisce pm me and I will give you a call. Also, i have about 1000 shows on the hard drive.

My latest concert just 11 days ago. Garth Brooks at the Sprint Center. Fantastic show!

Cheers
