In the latest issue of Arena Magazine (Brit FHM) Daniel Craig is on the cover and he is clearly wearing the 45mm PO. Can't wait for the movie.

I'll say this for Daniel Craig striking such a Steve McQueen pose.

Other men are overwhelmed by such a watch. But that Planet Ocean suits him down to the ground.

P.S.: The Thinking Man's Bond? I thought that was Dalton?

Looks like some good articles in that mag, I might have to get it. Not too sure about 'the haircut you have to get' though...

The loose fitting watch doesn't look good at all, IMO.

Loose fitting watches are okay, that's just a personal preference, but, wearing it with a tight metal bracelet?? :o:o That watch is going to grind and scrape over it constantly :pinch: Like nails down a chalk board :pinch:

My vote has to go to Daniel, particularly as I worked on Casino Royale.

Awesome, what did you do?

I liked how he played the part, and I'm a big fan of his other movies (I can watch L4yer Cake repeatedly and enjoy it more and more each time) I just felt he didn't look close enough to Fleming's descriptions. If they'd just died his hair black, all would have been fine ^_^

Did a lot of the visual effects work, removing wires, head replacements, lots of work putting in extra elements in the airport chase, stuff like that.

Apparently, for us Bond fans, we may have to buy a new watch afterall.

Yes, but is this just a shameless cash in or will Craig be sporting a non-007 branded black SMP in the film after all? I have to admit, bar the cheesy 007 logo, the watch does look quite sexy. Should be a piece of pi55 to rep.

"Cool! You should have taken out his white socks though."

Actually, if you go through the construction site sequence slowly, you'll see a lot of shots of the stuntman, one in particular, where he is wearing a glove!

No watches though.

Yeah, I totally agree. The black SMP looks very hot. I actually prefer it to the original blue SMP. It's part of the reason why I decided to get the black PO over the Bond SMP. But I guess now there's going to be a new Bond SMP =P.

I guess in light of this new watch, it's back up in the air whether DC will be wearing the PO or the new black SMP.

I'm betting he wears a non-limited edition black SMP in addition to the Planet Ocean Big Size, then they release a Quantum of Solace PO.

Omega really cashed in on Casino Royale, I'm sure they will want to do it again with two LE watches (if you call those huge editions limited) plus bonus sales of non-007 watches to people who don't like the dumb logos but like Bond memorabilia.

Edition size: 10007 x retail price $3700=$37025900 for the ugly "spiral" SMP

Edition size 5007 x retail price $3900=$19527300 for the Casino Royale PO

Total retail on Bond branded merch: $56,553,200

Of course they pay some royalties and there was some markdown, but that's still a pretty healthy figure.

The special editions never feature in the movies for reasons obvious. There's a fantasy black SMP with the correct bezel font already out there in rep-land so this should indeed be a doddle, once we get to see what the caseback looks like...

Edit...

Apparently the caseback carries the same 007 medallion as the last, swirly-face special edition, so mix these two and you are 90% there already...

  • 2 weeks later...

Closeups of the new Limited Edition Bond SMP:

"The updated chronometer sports a black bezel (rather than the traditional blue), not to mention black gold-plated hour and minute hands and red 007 logo.

As the name implies, it's also water-resistant up to 300 meters, if you need that for some reason.

The watchmaker will produce 10,007 of them, with the first hitting the brand's Beverly Hills shop for a price TBD."

Hmm. No waves?

That's what I noticed, too.

I like the watch, but without the patterned dial it would be too much like a standard sub dial for me to be tempted.

If there was ever a rep god, he/she would find a way of getting me the closed factory '007' before my days are done...

Interestingly, I don't collect gens, and I don't have a single 'Omega' in my rep collection right now, but if I were to commit to go for a gen, I can't imagine that I would go for anything other than an SMP.

I'm with you, there. I finally decided to hunt down a 'new-in-the-box' 2531, and scored one last week! I love it to bits. I'd tried on four separate occasions a SMP rep, but they all had issues I couldn't live with: the last two would've been good, but the crown protruded so much that it stuck into the back of my hand. I'll try again if I can be sure of getting a good 'un..
