Corgi Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 That's really dangerous actually... I hope they didn't get frostbite.
Nanuq Posted February 1, 2008 Author Report Posted February 1, 2008 Pfffffft. That's not even cold. When winter biking in Alaska you're more at risk of heatstroke than hypothermia.
KB Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 I suppose the question on the tip of my tongue is................why? Ken
r11co Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Are you kidding?! That is breathtaking!!
KB Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Yes but I'm sure it's just as breathtaking when it's not 20 below. Ken
Nanuq Posted February 1, 2008 Author Report Posted February 1, 2008 Too much insulation. People think because it's cold you have to dress like the Michelin Man. So they do, and that's fine for sedentary tasks. But then when you exert yourself the heat cannot get out. I stress that with my boy scout troop all the time... dress in layers with zippers and openings you can use to vent heat as you exert. Then you stay drier and when the exertion ends, you zip back up again. PS: who can tell me why those bars are there over the roadway?
KB Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 PS: who can tell me why those bars are there over the roadway? So you know where the road is when it's under snow? Ken
FxrAndy Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 You saving up for the lights for them?
rcrscom Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 WOW that's gorgeous country up there! One of my best friends is from the Matanuska valley and I was up there for his wedding. Wanna go back in a bad way...
Nanuq Posted February 1, 2008 Author Report Posted February 1, 2008 Did someone say Matanuska Glacier?
milsub5517 Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 i dont know about you guys but i prefer warm weather these days even though i grew up at -45'C temperatures my roommate back in college lived near where the temps go down to -70'C one of the coldest places on earth and its not antartica... Alaska is too warm for us, thats why we sold it Say Ch-ch-ch-ch-cheese!
Nanuq Posted February 5, 2008 Author Report Posted February 5, 2008 So your roommate lived in Oymyakon? THAT is cold. Sadly, I've only lived in placed where it hits -70 to -80 regularly. I'll tell you, working outside in those conditions makes a -20 bike ride feel balmy.
