HauteHippie Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Introducing No. 209... Bombay Sapphire on the rocks with a couple olives has long been my staple cocktail. Saturday night at a wedding, the bartender turned me on to 209 - and WOW is it something else. It seemed better with a lime twist than olives as it already has an ever so slight citrus taste, but either way makes a great drink. This stuff is crisp, clean and very refreshing with a twist. If you like gin, you owe it to yourself to get a bottle of 209. I suspect you'll never turn back. After my current bottle of Bombay Sapphire is gone, it'll probably be my last!
TwoTone Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Thanks for the tip Chief... I just keep Tanqueray in stock... Next time I need to get a new bottle I'll give it a try... Double T
Shundi Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Like TT I've always been a Tanqueray fan but I'll have to give this a shot (or two or three or four )
HauteHippie Posted February 11, 2008 Author Report Posted February 11, 2008 Tanq Ten is good stuff too, I must admit. But this 209 is something else.
doc savage Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 I'll give it a shot, never even bothered to try a "good" gin before. At the moment I am enjoying Gordons, vodka, and a dash of Lillet with a twist.
KB Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Not a gin drinker but my best mate is although I will need to shop around to see if it is available in Oz. Ken
subzero1 Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Rangpur Tanqueray for me when doing gin/tonics, and Hendrick's for gin martini's.
doc savage Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 I just switch to straight Gordon's, damn it's nasty on its own, but on the brght side I stoppeed caring hpw it tastes/.
scoobs1971 Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 I just switch to straight Gordon's, damn it's nasty on its own, but on the brght side I stoppeed caring hpw it tastes/. A fellow straight Gordon's drinker, LOL. But with a slice of lemon and some ice it's not that bad... At least it keeps you awake .
Toadtorrent Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Tanq Ten is good stuff too, I must admit. But this 209 is something else. My wife's a Tanq Ten person...I like Saphire...I'll have to try the 209.
LordRasta Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 I love the Bombay but I'll try this 209. Always on the lookout for a better cocktail.
HauteHippie Posted February 11, 2008 Author Report Posted February 11, 2008 I love junipero... It is amazing Lots of similarities to 209. Light and crisp with that distinct botanical spiciness. http://wineabout.pressdemocrat.com/default.asp?item=168930
Dario33 Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Sapphire drinker here as well...will definitely be on the lookout for 209 (never tried it before).
medphreak Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Thanks for the great tip. I don't have a taste for Bombay, but my cabinet has Tanqueray Ten, Tanqueray, Tanqueray Rangpur, Hendricks and Citadel gin. I think I might have a problem. My past favorite was Tanqueray Malaca. It had a slightly stronger floral accent than Ten, but was not quite as smooth. medP
jkerouac Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Tanqueray and Bombay martinis are popular in this house -- with lots of olives. My fantasy is to marinade lots and lots of olives in gin and vermouth.. for a day or two at least... and then just pop them in my mouth until all cares have melted away.....
jwa2425 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 I've been enjoying Tanqueray Rangpur on the rocks lately. But I must say the 209 is pretty good! I first tried it at a Monday night football game. We were in one of the distributor's Suites and they were showcasing it. Very smooth.
vlydog Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Be on the look-out for Bulldog http://www.bulldoggin.com/bulldog.html
Guest Carl Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Actually Gordon's works well for me too. When you are in actual gin and tonic weather it doesn't really matter how good your gin is. But it's just too damn cold here in the Northwest Territory right now. I'm waiting for days so hot that only mad dogs and Englishmen will be out at noon. That's real gin and tonic weather and tonic is the only thing that should be ever mixed with gin. Carl
jaguar2187 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Not a gin drinker but my best mate is although I will need to shop around to see if it is available in Oz. Ken Kenny, M8....Maybe you should try Beefeater. It's really smooth.......you just might like it M8
Johnkaz Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 I'm A sapphire fan also, I have never seen 209 over here. Cheers Johnkaz.
HauteHippie Posted February 16, 2008 Author Report Posted February 16, 2008 I'm A sapphire fan also, I have never seen 209 over here. Cheers Johnkaz. Yea, it looks like 209 is a pretty small time distillery in San Francisco that probably doesn't export.
