fitmic Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 The phrase: "All your bases are belong to me" What's up with that? What's the story behind it?
KB Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 It's from some Internet game I think, it's certainly not good English. Ken Edit; yep here you go....... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_your_base_are_belong_to_us
FasTTaP Posted April 19, 2008 Report Posted April 19, 2008 (edited) the original sentence is 'All your base are belong to us"... It's a long story, so as I'm quite lazy, I'll just give you a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_your_base_are_belong_to_us edit: oups... you beat me up to that Kenberg Cool story though, worth reading. Victoria Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 The phrase: "All your bases are belong to me" As you imagined, Fitmic, it's an English-language corruption of all "your bases belong to us". Just a bad translation, sometimes called "Engrish", from East Asian languages to English. BTW, I recently found out who Will Wright was. The apparently very well-known inventor of "The Sims", which recently hit 100 million games sold. Heck, even I have bought that game once. Do all computer nerds have to look like this...?
#ars Posted April 20, 2008 Report Posted April 20, 2008 (edited) Do all computer nerds have to look like this...? I guess ... yes? It's just a convention the guys have to follow. I guess they've agreed on one look and that's it. And if we are talking about the all time classics, let's not forget the tasty bananaphone. "hmhmhmhmmhm banaphone ... ding dong ding dong ding ..."
