Watchmeister Posted May 23, 2008 Report Share Posted May 23, 2008 I have noticed a number of folks with hairline cracks on their "gen" polished bezel. I have two on mine and as a result have a new bezel coming. I assume it happened when I got nervous and screwed the screws too tight. Does anyone have any thoughts or tips on how to avoid this as I will be mounting the new bezel and will be really pissed off if I do it again. I always wondered if the gen has the same issue or some form of washer or rubber bushing to avoid applying undued stress on the bezel. I had also wondered if there was one bad batch of bezels which impacted the earlier models or we were simply getting the rejects from a good ceramic factory. Any help would be appreciated. Cheaper and more solid... that's what I tought too... damn, the ceramic bezel is too expensive and delicate to play with... imagine if that's the case with the gen Hublot...in that case they are making a lot of spare bezels for the customers...and I really doubt that the bezel from the 1st version of the HBB is genuine... Not sure if it is the screw or what but certainly the ceramic bezels are damn fragile. So treat it with care and do not screw too tight. Besides, very hard can break : I suppose it has more chances to resist scratches than shocks. Think of sapphire crystals : they don't scratch but can break, and I have no doubt they could also crack if they were drilled. I really don't get it. /snip Ceramic is very hard when it comes to friction and scratches, but not on impact and compression. Having said that my HBB RG PC has survived a spectacular 5 meter dive to a tiled dancefloor. (Don't ask I'll post pics to prove that there is no reason to be afraid of today's gold plating) On your issue, I would advise You to use some thread locker as others have suggested. BTW my guess is that the cause of the cracks might not be the ceramic bezel, but the screws that are not perfectly copied from the genuine: if they don't fit perfectly with the bezel, they are becoming like a spike that instead of pulling the bezel down, it splits it open.
