Hello again....back with another poker story....lol

I decided to go back down to the Wynn casino yesterday and give the 3-5 NLH table a shot again....

Starting with $400 the table was moving a lot slower than my previous experience....so I had to be patient and just wait for the good cards to come....there was some big stacks on the table....so I couldnt afford to bluff any big pots with my $400....patience was a virtue....

Eventually....a guy sat next to me with about $300 in chips....he was wearing an Ostrich jacket....the only reason why I knew it was Ostrich was because I had seen some straps made out of the same material....

Mr Ostrich jacket suddenly had to leave before he even played one hand....which was good for me because an old man took his place....he was not skilled at NLH....

First of all....he was wearing an old Rolex DD with diamond bezel and markers....and of course the day and date were both incorrect....

Upon closer inspection I could see that the gold was wearing off of the bracelet....my god....the old man was wearing a rep! I couldnt believe it....was kinda hard to spot....but I stared at the watch for a long time and could make out the fading gold....the watch did have a nice sweep though....

He came into the game with about $300 in chips and quickly took down a couple of decent pots....then....I was dealt KK and he raised....I called....he caught a 10 on the flop....checked the flop....bet the turn....I called....he bet the river and called my raise....his A 10 was no good against my KK....

Later on I was on the big blind with 6h 8d....everyone limped in so I got to see the flop for only $5....

It came 5c 10d 7s....

The old man bet $20 and I called....since I had an open ended straight draw I figured it was worth the $20 to see the turn card....everyone else folded....

Low and behold the turn card....9h!!!

I caught my straight....he bets....I called....

The river was a rag card....he checked....I bet....he goes all in with about $250....

He had A 10 AGAIN!!....lol....cleaned the guy out and I walked out of the poker room up $600....lol....easy day at the office....

I had a little more fun this morning down at the strip again....

After work I bolted on down to the Sahara Casino and bought into their daily 7:00 tournament....I started off real strong....won a lot of pots in the first round....then it all went down hill....I eventually got busted....

So after that defeat and blowing $100 at the Sahara I took a trip back to the Wynn....which has not failed me yet....

I sat at the 2-5 NLH table with a bunch of clowns that were joking around and talking aloud about their hands while STILL in the hand....I guess poker is just entertainment for some people....

A couple of the guys had stacks well over $1500....I came onto the table with only $400....as usual....

I took down a couple of good pots and got it up to about $600....then things went really slow....for a long time I did not catch any good cards....and after taking a couple of chances with some mediocre cards....I was back down to $400....then $375....

I eventually got my hands on pocket Queens....

I raised pre-flop to $25 and got a lot of callers....5 callers I think....

The flop came down 10H 10S JC....

I was under the gun and a little nervous about the 10s on board....so I tried to bully the pot right away with a $50 bet....I got 3 callers....uhhh ohhhh.....

The turn is a 5C....no a problem....but I still wanted to protect my QQ hand....so I threw down another $50....only 2 callers this time....but I was starting to think that I must have some serious competition on my hands....

The river card is a JD....uhhh ohhhh.....now ive gotta be screwed....any 10 or J will kill me....

Still being under the gun....I though long and hard about what I should do....I only had about $225 dollars or so left....betting $100 is basically the same as going all in because of the size of the pot and how committed the other players were....

I decided the best move is to check....because I was willing to go all in anyway....so there was a chance that everyone else would check and if I was beat then atleast I would have some money left....

the guy next to me bets $50.....oh crap....now Ive gotta bet something to keep in this....but there was one other person before me....

This guy took a really really long time trying to figure out the best move....and that is what killed the hand for him....

If he had the J or a 10 then it would not have taken him so long to make a move....he really studied the board for a long time and decided to raise it up to $350....

I insta called with my QQ and all my chips....about $225....the guy after me says...."Thank you for that call"....he folds....

The guy who bet the $350 was bluffing and didnt even bother to turn over his cards....he says "You got it man...."

That was a $900 pot including my $225 call....

Another easy day at the office....lol....

The Wynn Casino poker room has been very good to me lately....and last night was no exception....

I sat at the 2-5 NLH table at around 11:15 PM with $400 in chips....

The cards were coming very slow for the first few rounds and I did not get a single hand that I could call a raise with....so I folded every hand during the first 30 minutes or so....

Then I finally got a pocket pair.... 7d 7h

I considered preflop raising....but I wanted as many players in the hand as possible....so I just called the $5....to my relief everyone limped in just like me....except for 3 people who folded their cards....

The flop came down 6h 10d 7c....

Yippee! I flopped trip 7s....

I was first to act and there is no need for me to scare anybody away with a bet....I checked....

two other guys checked and then this older guy made a $30 bet....there was one caller besides me and all others folded....

The turn card came a 6s....

I was now in great shape with the board paired....only two hands can beat me now....pocket 6s or pocket 10s....my full house was not likely to be cracked....

I bet out $50....the older guy called and all others folded....

The river was nothing special....like a 5 or something....

I bet out $50 again and now I had only $226 left in front of me....

The old man goes all in!....he had a lot of money in front of him so he had me covered....

I said...."I have to call"

I turned over the pocket 7s and his pocket jacks were no good....

It took me a few minutes to stack all those chips....$765 or there abouts....lol....cant believe I got a boat with my first pocket pair of the night....

I took a little bit of money from the guy later on with some semi-decent hands and walked out of the casino with $800....

Doubled up baby!! I played for almost 2 hours....

Hopefully ill sit at a table with some players wearing nice watches soon....that way my posts are a little more relevant to this forum and the original idea behind this thread.... :D

EDIT: I realize that my math is not correct....if you add up the bets....it does not equal the size of the pot that I took down....there must have been some other callers that I forgot about who folded before the river....for some reason I have a hard time remembering exactly how the hand progressed....at any rate....at the end of the hand I remember clearly having roughly $765 in chips....

I have a couple of good recent ones; both times I was tired, bored, not catching any good cards and basically over it for the night.

So I'm dealt pocket 10s, I figure on cashing them in quick and going home after the hand so I go all in with about $250 in chips. There are four other guys at the table, and EVERYBODY goes all in before the flop. Turns out I wasn't quite as short stacked as I thought--there's only one side pot and not much in it. Everybody shows 'em, and it ain't good: KK, JJ, QQ, AA. What are the the odds, huh?

The flop was 6K9, so I was barely paying attention to the turn (8) or the river (7); what a rush! No skill involved, just pure dumb luck.

Dang bro! Thats amazing....runner runner for a straight....thats like a miracle suck out....lol....

I lost $400 today....

I was big blind with pocket Aces....Ac Ah....I limped in for $5....an asian kid at the other end of the table makes it $20 to go....

There was a couple of callers....I decided to raise it up to $40 and scare away the semi decent hands....

The asian kid calls and one other person is in....

Flop comes 5h Jc 9c....

First to act checks....I tried to buy the pot right then and ther for $25....the asian kid raises me $100....

The other guy folds and now its up to me....I really didnt want to fold my Aces....plus I had a back door out with a nut club flush....I called the $100 raise....

Turn card is a 2c....

Im first to act and put up $50....

The asian kid puts me all in....

I was on a nut flush draw and decided to take a gamble....all I needed was one more club and it couldn't pair the board....I called with all my chips....about $225....

Turn card was red and the kid turned over JJ....ouch....thats how aces get cracked....

-$400 on one hand....I left the table and decided to call it a night....Ill go back tomorrow and try to recoup the loss....

I sent this story to my friend and this is what he had to say:

"with a re raise before the flop (which is what you're looking for before the flop) the guy should have re raised all in right there and stopped the pot or made the guy with the JJs gamble. play gets what it deserves."

If he's correct (I don't know myself), hopefully it will help next time.

OK, I don't post here much, but I thought I would share a bad beat story.

Its not mine, its one of Doyle Brunson's. He talked about it once on the 2+2 forum.

He was playing Texas Hold 'em, and found himself all-in post flop with a set of aces vs. his opponents set of kings.

The dealer accidentally exposed the burn card (The case King) and then dealt the turn.

In essence, after the burn was exposed, Doyle's opponent was drawing dead since there were no king's left in the deck.

Before the river was dealt, a waitress walked behind the dealer and bumped his shoulder causing him to drop the whole deck into the muck.

Per casino rules, if that happens, the entire muck is collected and re-shuffled.

The river was then dealt from the entire deck.

Guess what card hit the river?

You got it, the case king.

Now THAT is a bad beat.

"with a re raise before the flop (which is what you're looking for before the flop) the guy should have re raised all in right there and stopped the pot or made the guy with the JJs gamble. play gets what it deserves."

That is wrong....

You do not automatically go all in just because you have AA and there was a pre flop raise....

Correct play for me was to raise and then call any re-raise....in our case the asian kid just called my raise and all others folded....

One can assume that the fellow who raised pre flop has one of these hands....

AA

KK

QQ

JJ

AK

10 10

With that in mind....correct play is to call ANY raise....so it doesnt matter if I raise $50 or $100 or $1000 or go ALL IN for that matter....he calls anyway....

The purpose of the raise was to get rid of any players who limped in with semi decent hands....

Your better off saving some dough by putting up a sizeable raise....like $40 or $50....that will get rid of the limpers....

The other thing to consider is that I was on a small stack compared to the asian kid....who is sitting on top of about $1200....so maybe a $400 all in is an easy call for him anyway....

I got seriously lucky today....big time....

For those of you who have been following this thread you realize that I lost $400 the other day....my intention was to go back to the casino the following day and recoup the loss....

Oopsies....lost another $400....ouch....

I had recently gone to the bank and deposited my entire bank roll....so the $800 was all the money I had to play cards with and I lost it all....

I went to a meeting this morning at work and went to breakfast at Sunset Station Casino....

Before breakfast I slipped $40 into the video poker machine....it did a fantastic job of taking the money and returning nothing....well designed machine I guess....lol....

I went to breakfast and ordered 2 eggs scrambled, 2 pancakes, 2 strip bacon, 2 sausage links and coffee....only $4.99....what a deal....

Before heading back to the car and driving to work I decided to give it one last shot....

The ATM spit out $20 for me and I stuffed it into the video poker machine again....but a DIFFERENT machine this time....

Right off the bat it was playing much better than the previous machine....I hit a few full houses and flushes....couple of straights....etc....then I was dealt 3 Jacks and drew the 4th Jack for $62.50....now I had $85 in the machine....

Feeling a little lucky....and desperate....I switched over to $1 video poker....

For those of you who are unfamiliar with how video poker works....the max bet on a $1 machine is $5....so now I am betting $5 every time I hit the button....

Again the machine was not taking my money....it was letting me play....and play....and play....AND THEN....

I am dealt AA and I drew TWO MORE ACES....so thats AAAA....$800!!!!

I now had $840 in the machine....and decided to continue....

Now she was really playing well....which is strange for a machine that just cracked out $800....

I hit about 3 full houses at $45 each....a couple flushes and straights....

I cashed out with $950....winning ALL the money I lost on Wed and Thurs with $90 profit....

Aint Vegas cool?

Love it !

The only games you can make money on (in the long run and in my opinion) are Black Jack, Video Poker, and Poker :D

And you did great!

I'm gonna send your explanation on why you did what you did, and see what my friend says. He's off at the ca$ino right now so I can't call him there ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello all....

Well....its been a real roller coaster of a ride at the poker table lately....lots of ups and down....winning and losing....mostly losing....lol....

With my bank roll dwindling away I decided to fake being sick at work and head down to the wynn casino with the remainder of my cash....$1000....

I work in the sun all day and didnt really feel like dealing with 150 degree weather....plus business was dead so the odds of me makin some dough at work was pretty slim....didnt feel bad about fakin the sickness....lol....

With $500....I sat at the 2-5 table for a couple of hours....won a couple of decent pots....lost a few others and then lost my whole stack with an ACE holding a poor kicker....it was kind of a bluff....I didnt expect the guy to call me....his kicker sucked also....but it was just enough to clean me out....ouch....

Now I really had to do some business....so I pulled out my remaining $500 and switched tables....

The guy to my right was wearing a really nice rep of a VC tourbillon....

This one....

o_IMG_1999.jpg

I complimented the watch and we chatted for a few seconds about watches....he said its a very uncommon watch....most people are not familiar with VC....I said yes....its like Patek....he said EXACTLY!....

To see if he knew anything at all about watches....I asked him if it was a tourbillon....knowing full well that it was....

He says...."Wha?...what did you call it?....a tourbil....I dont know what its called....my wife bought it for me...."

You would figure that if the guy was wearing a gen VC tourbillon worth well over $20,000 he would atleast know what the hell it was....lol....he had never heard of tourbillon.... :bangin:

The sweep was a little choppy....the balance looked pretty standard....just like the ones in our ETA reps....BUSTED!!...lol....

I sat at the table for a good 3 hours....catching crap hands the whole time....not what I needed....

I took down a couple of small pots....they only brought me back to the $500 that I came to the table with....

Shortly there after I lost over $125 trying to muscle some pots....didnt work....

Then I got dealt QQ....

Finally a good hand....

long story short....I made a huge mistake and went all in with my remaining $285 with K J 5 on the board....the guy called me and turned over AK....the turn and river cards didnt help....

Now im cleaned out....-$1000....no bank roll....what am I to do.... :(

I decided to take a couple days off and figure out what to do....I needed some cash bad....

In desperation....lol....I took money from a place that I shouldnt have....VISA....huge risk....but it paid off....thank god....

I took $100 to the video poker machine....that has been good to me in the past....while playing Double Double Bonus Poker betting $5 a hand I managed to pop off this jackpot....

0616082224a.jpg

Yes....thats right....$2000.... :D:D:D:D

After waiting about 20 minutes for the hand pay....the lady finally came by and placed 20 $100 bills in my hand....tipped her $50 and crammed another $100 in the machine....played Deuces Wild this time....lost the $100....and another $100....

So I switched back to Double Double BP....again betting $5 a hand....

I hit QQQQ for $250.... :D:D:D:D

So now Ive got $2100 in my pocket....

Feeling A LOT better now....I trolled into the poker room and lost it all....

JUST KIDDING!!! :Jumpy:

I went to the table with $200 and played smart/tight the whole time....walked out with $400....left the casino with $2300....

Im back in the action baby!!....hopefully I can make some money at work for a change....cant live on the casino forever....as I just recently learned....the four AAAA3 was a long shot....couldnt have come at a better time though....

If you ever want to make it playing cards your going to have to completely quit gambling in the pit and the machines. I've seen literally hundreds of winning poker players go broke.

Also, maybe even more important than your skill at poker is bankroll management. You should never sit at a table with that much of your free cash on the line. Again, I've seen many great players go broke from playing to high. Poker is a game of variance. Even if you can crush the 2/5 game, eventually your going to have a down swing that will leave you absolutely broke playing with your roll.

The games you are playing are extremely beatable with plenty of tourist. You need to keep working your job and start playing 1/2 to build your game up. Not so much to make a living, but to become better. Your not going to get better until you put in 100's of hourse and see 1000's of hands. I've read your hand postings and most all of the hands could have been played better. Get with another player who you see at the tables everyday and go to dinner with them afterwards. Discuss hands and stategy. It may sound dumb but this will improve your game more than any book will.

Try reading the 2+2 forums, it's a great place to talk with players and analyze hands. Many of the guys are live players in Vegas and they can help you to improve your game.

If you would like to talk, then just shoot me a PM. I'd be more than happy to have lunch with you somewhere or maybe in play for a while to just help you out.
