I've been browsing the net looking at some vintage Rolex Sea Dwellers dating back to the 1970s or so.

I've seen many gen vintage Rolex movement that have rusts/crap in them???

what I don't understand is that these Rolex SD are suppose to be water-tight to unbelievable depths...

how can the movements be in conditions like these???

so, it's been making me think what sort of condition would our "super" reps with Asian/ETA movements be in, say 30 years time???

really makes me wonder.

Mate...30 yrs down the line....you could perhaps still put in a new compatible movement and sell the super rep of today for a bomb....as most likely they wouldn't be available anymore. :-).

Personally...i'd be happy if the watches last 3 yrs +

Depends if you have the watch serviced every few years the way you should. These are complex, delicate mechanisms, so parts will wear out.... more slowly if well serviced, more quickly if not.

In particular, anyone with a claimed waterproof watch needs to have it checked and resealed every few years, otherwise there is a very good chance it will end up in the condition you described.

Ask my grand kids....Since I'll be 97 then!!!...And I probably wont give a $hit either!!!...

You don't buy $100.00 reps for "the long haul"... ;)

But here's an @ 30 year old Timex for comparison...Still BNIB!!

It ain't how old...it's how much wear it gets!!

BTW the Timex still keeps good time whenever I give it a few cranks to keep the oils slippery!!
