By-Tor
Guys, I have one of my watches in a friend's possession (for a crown exchange) but he can't open the caseback. Any good tips how to open a rep Rolex caseback which has been tightened like there was no tomorrow?
Dizzy
use a little heat (soldering iron) on the caseback... OR inturn you can use an icecube to drop the temp of the caseback (not watch case). This will cause the metal to expand and or contract allowing it to open easier Try it, it reallly works dizz
FxrAndy
I bet Bob knows a way or two, might involve an axe or a blow torch though
Guest carlsbadrolex
Listen, I have had every possible Rolex rep and most of the gens. I have owned the Rolex branded case openers... NOTHING ever works as well as a piece of duct tape folded over in to a tube and flattened out. You need to make it large enough to go all the way across the case back, but not too wide as to tape the case back to the case. Twist like you mean it and it will come off. I recently took a gen to a watch smith. He tried to get the back off with the proper tools and finally gave up saying that he was afraid he would damage it. I went to my truck, pulled out the duct tape from my tool box and opened it right there in front of him with almost no effort at all. I gave him the roll of tape as I left. freddy333
If all else fails, spray a liberal coat of WD40 (penetrating oil) & let it sit for 5 minutes. The caseback should then come off with a caseback opener.
