lanikai
update 7/17/08 The crystasl arrived today (saphire w/saphire mag .. I am currently soaking it in 100% pure acetone.. this will take longer than the heat.. but I just want to see how long it will take.. if we do go ahead and get 20 I don't know if I want this in the house .. highly flammable for one .. two is the fumes although I have it covered I would have to get a air tight glass container for that amount of crystals .. so we'll see.. I have less than 2 weeks before they have to get to chief in Cali.. so we need to make a decision on these ASAP.. cost would be 20 usd per that is for a 20 pax buy ... the acetone if I use it.. (i will spring for) add a dollar for express shiping ... 21.00 usd each mag removed and shiped to chieftang We can decide if chief wants a self addressed envelope for return of these to you .... It is 2.5 magnification and 7 mm ... it is saphire.. and a bit thinner than what is on the GMTIIc Rep.. Now it's up to you guy's OK... the mag is saphire and I did remove it..... I will have to find a place to do the acetone it is not good to do indoorsw.. and just with one crystal and a couple of ounces of Acetone 100% pure the fumes are too toxic.... I used heat but part of the datejust crystal where it in the case set is plastic.. so heat is an option but the plastic has to be cut off first.. the problem with the acetone is finding a container .. may have to see a chem lab.. the acetone once released to oxygen reats and expands .. sort of like giving off gases and a regular container makes me nervous.. I have a reply to the group buy concerning the crystal with mag (saphire) 2.5x I was quoted 20 usd ea. for 20 pcs, (I am trying to get this price a little lower) ..... normal price would be @37.00 ea. more for outside Conus and add 7.00 for each additonal order per customer (vendor charges 7.00 for each order regarless if it goes in the same parcel).. more for outside Conus .. if more are ordered then obviously the price will lower. this is shipping included in the price .. I have ordered one to verify correct mag and size it should be here probably beggining of next week ... I will see if it the mag will detach from the crystal . etc. what I need to get is an estimate on is who will commit to this ?? .. it will be shipped to me... payment could be half and the balance on shipping to chief .......... what margin for error... ie. efects if any ?? ....I am not looking to turn a profit but I don't want to pay out of pocket either We need to collectively iron these things out.. if I recieve them and average 5 mag removals a day then by chiefs next run we should be ready.. but this would be 2 limit per member .. I would even like 1 per member but we need to discuss some spares to be sent to chief for redundancy.. We need to collectively plan this ... if the $$ amount gets to high for the initial purchase then that needs to be adjusted And I would like a third party .. either freddy or Terry.. to be "in charge of the payments... guy's i have a full plate and need some "team" help in kepping things straight.. So chief needs to give us a "rough" E.T.A. for his next run .... just so I know I have 2 months (as an example) There will be a cut off for ordering... since I need to make payment to the vendor I would like this to be for Chiefs AR run only .. but it numbers are not TOO crazy and it is managable then we can "discuss" my doing more removal.. it will take purchasing a soldering iron on my part and maybe one of those sugical clamps .. should be all the tools necessary to do this..not a big deal.. it is almost half off the normal price.. so we can make it work.. Aloha~Cheers R
docblackrock
Lani, 'scuse me if I'm being a bit dense here this evening (long long day) but just to clarify.... You are proposing a group buy for replacement sapphire crystals at 20 rupees a pop. Yes? You are offering your services with the soldering iron to remove the cyclops and forward onto Chief for AR coating? Yes? Two further questions then.... 1. What (if any) is the additional cost of the AR coat? (one for you Chief?). 2. And will you be offering a service to stick that AR'd sucker back onto the crystal? What (if any) is the additional cost of the AR coat? (one for you Chief?). 2. And will you be offering a service to stick that AR'd sucker back onto the crystal? the price for the crystal with Mag (2.5) is roughly 29.90 usd plus 7.00 usd shipping (more for outside CONUS) per crystal... so on or about 37.00 usd at regular price .. The price I am quoted for 20 units is 20 usd each shipping inclusive... If we order more quanity he would probably give a little more of a break.. so 20 crystal shipped to me for 400 usd ... No worries S... I feel like that everyday when I get home after being up @ 12 am every morning I will remove the cyclops ... Chief has said 30.00 usd for the coating NO... you will be recieving the coated mag from chief ... your crystal has the laser etched coronet @ the 6 ... up to each individual to install the mag.. we can work on a tutorial if there isn't one already available Aloha~Cheers R
freddy333
Re-installation is technically simple (as long as the AR coating is not affected by the crystal cement), but requires a couple of items that most owners are not likely to own (or require in the future) Crystal Cement, Ultra-Violet Activated This cement hardens when exposed to a UV light source. Best used to glue magnifying lens to mineral glass crystals, since it dries completely clear. Hardens when exposed to sunlight or a UV light. 2 ml bottle FB-2200 $5.95 Ultra-Violet Lamp UV lamp for UV glue, always protect your eyes for the rays of the lamp. 110-127 volt 60HZ 8 W FB-2201 $34.95 They say you can cure the cement in the sunlight, but I think it would take quite some time in very bright light to fully cure. But I guess you could try it as long as you are aware that it may or may not work as well.

lanikai
hey lani, interested in this thread even though I don't own a GMTIIc yet...about to email angus but keep me in the mix please. i don't check the rolex board often so PM me so I don't miss the GB. no worries D. .... i communicated with the vendor on ebay today.. guess he's wanting to go off ebay for this one.. I told him it is all contingent on the validating of his crystal /mag being saphire and the removal of the mag.. I purchased one off him from ebay today.. so the 20 usd shiping inclusive is contingent on 20 units... I should have the crystal by the beggining of next week.. the mail is backlogged a little due to the long weekend of July 4. ... so as soon as I verify it's all good we can get things rolling btw. I already have my mags for the GMTIIc to be AR'd .. I'm doing this just to help out members for the next AR run .. figure the only way to see everyone with a cool wrist shot So You are down.. I'm just gauging to tell him how many we need as long as the one I ordered is a go ...
Guest carlsbadrolex
YES, I am in for two at either price (meaning if we cant get the 20 ordered). This is very much appreciated!

lanikai
This is contingent on 20 orders.. as I said.. I have my mags traken care of already... so if the 20 orders cannot be met .. then I'm afraid everyone is on their own to order seperately from ebay... I have my mags traken care of already... so if the 20 orders cannot be met .. then I'm afraid everyone is on their own to order seperately from ebay... The price differential between a solo or group buy is not a deal breaker. I think that anyone able to afford the $50 total outlay for a group bought cyclops ought to be able to afford the additional $10 or $15 if the part must be purchased on ones own. The more relevant issue, I think, will be the logistics of getting everyone's separately purchased & shipped cyclops out to Chief & then making sure they are all there to be included in his next AR run. (I can already see the dozen or so posts like 'Why did my cyclops not get AR'd?' or 'I sent it 2 weeks ago, but I was told it did not arrive.') So, for that reason, a group buy, followed by a single shipment to Chief, will probably eliminate alot of problems.

So since we have ample time ... take advantage of the opportunity.. and if we can knock off 15 to 20 bucks in the process.. hey.. why not?? I'm not manipulating this in anyway.. with me.. what you see is what you get .... no hidden agendas.. that 's why I say .. I'm already ..... Good to Go .. with mine... but I alway's talk .."team"... so i would like to .."walk my talk"... so to speak.. So you are spot on Freddy !!!
