Defender110 Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 hello friends in the Rolex Area! I have not done any posting here and i am new to Rolex. I understand that many are at first drawn to rolex but that is not why i started here on the forums, my interest was with other makes.. and i also quickly found out that... NO ONE HAS THE PERFECT SUB! :-) so after much time spent with Panerai and Breitling projects and many satisfying Frankens.. i came across this by happenstance: NEW STOCK ElPrimero in the package. so i will now begin a franken daytona 16520! i will try and periodically update here on the project but i am sure that it will take some time for me to acquire all the necessary parts, i will also post questions here from time to time. btw: i have come across a SEL NOS (78390-A) bracelet.. what is a good buy?
Guest porsche356a Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 If its NOS, $1400 is a good price for a 78390a.

Hi & welcome to Rolex. Every once in a while, a new El Primero pops up for sale & you are lucky to have found 1. This should be a great project. I have never purchased a 78390A, but I would guess it retails for around $1,200+. You might check with Ubi since he has a couple of them.
flex Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 very nice find - if i had the time now, i should be working on one of these
Defender110 Posted July 23, 2008 Author Report Posted July 23, 2008 how should i feel about this deal? 16520 white dial with handset NOS: USD 850 78390A SEL end bracelet NOS: USD 1,300
HauteHippie Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 how should i feel about this deal? 16520 white dial with handset NOS: USD 850 78390A SEL end bracelet NOS: USD 1,300 Fantastic pricing. Is the dial really not refinished?
freddy333 Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 I agree with the above. If the dial is gen (most I see advertised as gen are in fact either new aftermarket or redials of aftermarket dials), I would give the seller cash before his drugs wear off.
Guest Sql_pl Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Great idea. Good luck with your project. Two small buggers still stop me from finishing mine.... You can read about mine HERE
Defender110 Posted July 24, 2008 Author Report Posted July 24, 2008 based on the feedback here i completed the transaction for the dial/hands/bracelet. its been confirmed the items are NOS.
flex Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 very nice dial..........most I have seen are 1k
HauteHippie Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 very nice dial..........most I have seen are 1k And with the hands, I don't think I've seen them under $1.2k recently....
freddy333 Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 A set of gen hands, by themselves, set me back about $250 last year So you did very well.
reelamore Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 Best of luck with your project..you won't regret the effort..

Watchmeister Posted May 18, 2011 Report Posted May 18, 2011 Ubi does not have a lead on the bracelet. He is just very knowledgeable on these builds having done a couple.
wiesn089 Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 Try Wempe or another big retailer, that's where I sourced my last gen bracelet a few months ago.
HauteHippie Posted May 19, 2011 Report Posted May 19, 2011 Gen bracelet was $1100ish (retail) before the recent price increase.
