george1
If like me and many others you have had problems removing the crown stem on an eta2836, the problem being the keyless works collapsing on removal of the stem, even when you use the correct tool to fit the t- bar release button it can sometimes not go back in properly, I now use this method instead. Remove case back as normal and with movement retaining ring still in place unscrew the crown and use a pair of precision pliers with pointed ends to grip the stem inside the case, not too much pressure is needed as to damage the stem you just want to stop it turning then just unscrew the crown from the stem, every one I have tried has unscrewed fairly easily, then remove movement retaining ring and movement slips from case no problem, no worries about keyless works etc, on re-assembly just screw crown back onto stem and hand tighten. hope this helps as I know this is a nightmare problem with eta's after many hours modding only to fall at the last hurdle. ubiquitous
...Or you can simply pull the crown/stem to the time setting position prior to releasing it from the movement. Voila... No more keyless works problems (this measure prevents it).
GhostfaceZX
I think a lot of people will end up bending or breaking the stem this way. I've pulled the stem out of my 2836-2 many times and never had problem with the collapsing gears from pushing too hard......I always just apply light pulling pressure to the crown while slowly giving the release button more pressure. stac
From someone that knows a little about these movements...LISTEN TO UBI, he's right! I've taken out dozens and dozens of crowns without a problem
