houndoggie
I've just ordered my first replica (euromariner v4 ETA) from eurotimez today and now I am already deciding on a second rep. I can remember father growing up hording random watches and hunting for good deals. How many of you all have inherited you lust for watches from your parents. Or where did your influence come from? greg_r
My Grandfather was a watch/clock nut as was, I believe, his father before him... I remember him showing me how to dismantle/service a pocket watch back when I was around 7 years old.

houndoggie
My Grandfather was a watch/clock nut as was, I believe, his father before him... I remember him showing me how to dismantle/service a pocket watch back when I was around 7 years old. I also had a curious hand as a child and would "take apart" most things mechanical or electronic- much to my fathers dismay!
jkerouac
My parents both had nice watches, but were not collectors or avid about the technology or craftsmanship associated with fine time pieces. On the other hand, my mother was born in Switzerland, so every time we visited the relatives I would fall in lust with the incredible variety of beautiful watches in Swiss jewelry store windows. That's why I call this hobby "my Swiss disease."

fat.tail.event
There is a very wide spectrum for me on this...my parents have various clocks, multiple ones per room, so I see them from a decorative angle. Watches are a personal expression, like many other things. The engineering and adancement of time keeping devices is fascinating. So you have that philosophical marriage/balance of art and science, history etc. And the physics student in me always contemplates the variable of time, its possible manipulation (like the bending of light). strat22
I'm not sure where my interest in watches comes from. Certainly not my family. No one in my family has ever owned anything nicer than a Seiko or would ever care to. Where I see watches as these amazing little machines that are worthy of hours of my attention; others in my family simply view them as a way to tell time. TeeJay
Not at all, although my dad used to be an engineer (tool maker, by title) so I guess my interest with such things comes from him to a degree.
