I can remember father growing up hording random watches and hunting for good deals. How many of you all have inherited you lust for watches from your parents. Or where did your influence come from? On the other hand, my mother was born in Switzerland, so every time we visited the relatives I would fall in lust with the incredible variety of beautiful watches in Swiss jewelry store windows. fat.tail.event Posted November 6, 2008 Report Share Posted November 6, 2008 There is a very wide spectrum for me on this...my parents have various clocks, multiple ones per room, so I see them from a decorative angle. Watches are a personal expression, like many other things. The engineering and adancement of time keeping devices is fascinating. So you have that philosophical marriage/balance of art and science, history etc. And the physics student in me always contemplates the variable of time, its possible manipulation (like the bending of light). No one in my family has ever owned anything nicer than a Seiko or would ever care to. Where I see watches as these amazing little machines that are worthy of hours of my attention; others in my family simply view them as a way to tell time.
