That "plate" is called the rotor--it is normal for this to spin when you manually wind the watch. Also, when you wear the watch--this spins and that's what automatically winds/powers your watch. You really shouldn't manually wind automatic movements as this is usually the result. I believe that you have stripped the winding gear, which will need to be replaced. Krayfish Posted December 1, 2008 Report Share Posted December 1, 2008 Yea I heard you can wind and wind, because when its fully done the clutch or whatever its called will engage and you can hear it clicking...... You cant OVERwind them. I just gave my auto a wind, with the glass back, and the rotor never moved (well maybe a fraction) nothing major though a fraction of a mm. RWG Technical Posted December 1, 2008 Report Share Posted December 1, 2008 You shouldn't hand wind any automatic beyond a couple of gentle slow turns to get it started. Anything beyond this and you risk damaging the movement. Your spinning rotor is caused by the click wheel sticking. And, yes both andreww and toad beat me to it, again, blasted ! When I gently shaked it for first time, the rotor spined and the same does every time I shake it. I never manually winded it. What's the problem? Thank you. How ever as the Zigmiester said it's not suposed to when hand wound. If you MUST hand wind an auto to start it, a few turns only and very slowley! Col.
