Hi all,

I'm looking for someone to do a movement swap for me. I have a mbw 5513 with an ETA 2824-2 in it and I was trying to seal the case and monkeyed up the movement now the stem will not stay in also I need another crown tube installed (I'm sure I stripped the crown side). I don't have a rep friendly watchsmith nearby so I need to find someone to do this for me. I'm a noob looking for help....Thanks

Mods please move this post if its in the wrong section

Maybe you could tell us where you are on this planet- no point in mailing stuff halfway around the world.

Sounds like you botched up the keyless works- no big deal.Any watchmaker can fix that. Changing out the case tube is a little more work- you'd probably have to drill and tap the case hole, install a new tube and at that point it would be advised to put on a gen crown. Not a big deal, but I would think it's worth between $100-150. Fixing the keyless works is a $30-40 deal. I don't think a movement swap would be necessary.

Oops! I was on the phone while Andy was asking you where you were!

Alligoat,

Yep, that sounds like exactly what I did, but my problem is I can't find a watchmaker around here to fix it. None of these guys want to work on a rep watch. I've been to five places and got turned away like I had the plague for having a rep. I can remove the case tube and I already have a gen crown and tube (a 24-703) that I would like to get installed. I was figuring that it maybe easier to just change the movement than to fix this one. But I'm no watch repairman as we all can tell LOL :D ... Thanks for all the responses I really do appreciate it.

No worse than many of us have done. Learning by mistakes may be a little exy but it's efective!

As the guys said, no biggie. Find a watchsmith close by who is not a AD (authorised dealer) and get a quote. At least if you do need a new crown tube and crown you will have a much better rep as a result.

Like trailboss says, the key is finding a small independent watchmaker- one who does his own work. It shouldn't be too hard to find one that can work on an ETA movt. And the only tricky part about putting a case tube in an MBW is that you have to enlarge the hole to 3mm first because MBW uses a smaller hole for their case tube. Then you tap it w/ a 3mm x .35 tap. Also might have to chamfer the hole so that the tube will sit in there correctly. You've got the tube and crown so you've already saved yourself $75 give or take.

Yep, I've tried that. I've called every watch repair place in the yellow pages and none want to touch it. One told me that the wouldn't want to be sued by Rolex for working on a rep. (I don't know how that would happen but that was their excuse). All I want is the thing fixed. If anyone knows of someone that can do this work please let me know. I don't mind if I have to ship that watch to the far side of the Planet to get it fixed.

Try emailing Mark from http://www.watchdoctor.biz/ or Rex on RG...not sure if Mark will work on reps but I seriously doubt he cares as long as it's an ETA movement... The Zigmeister is obviously the ne plus ultra of movement specialists/rep repair experts here but I'm not sure if he's taking on new work yet...

Good luck!
