Accutron 214

I have an old Accutron 214 from 1963. It stopped working about a month ago. Does anybody know of someone that fix a 214? Preferrably in the Toronto area.

Very few independent watchmakers will work on Accutrons these days, but I have heard good things about this site & this site.

Alternatively, you might post a request for help on Timezone.

He went to the Bulova School of Watchmaking in NYC and specializes in vintage Accutrons... prices are very, very reasonable and he's worked on a number of my vintages and even one of my 90's DateJusts with no issues...

Freddy, I contacted Eric Grafton at one of the sites you recommended. He seems willing and capable. Unfortunately, everyone who can fix an Accutron is somewhere other than Canada.

The Accutron story is a good read for anyone that's interested.

The funny thing is, the 214 & the 218 are very very easy to fix!

As an Accutron collector I suggest you buy a working 214 on the Bay and swap the movements. If there is no hum in yours the coils are gone. If it hums but doesn't move the index wheel is probably the culprit.

Either way it's cheaper to do a swap.

I had two 214's (an Alpha and an Astronaut) serviced and restored by Eric. His service was top notch and reasonably priced. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Thanks everyone. There's definitely no hum. I'm sending it off to Eric this week. I'll post some pics of the finished product in 4-6 weeks.
