any thoughts on the 5513 up on tz?

I let two amazing watches go (really four) to pick up a gen rolex. I was going for a 14060m but the vintage 5513 is calling too and this looks like a great price. IMO, the case is pretty bad but priced correctly. Any thoughts. (it is just up on the TZ sales section and most other forums).

You do realise this isn't exactly a "vintage" 5513 don't you? Dial indices and pearl (latter damaged so likely original to watch). Almost certainly a mid-to-late '80s 5513 - ask for the serial range to confirm. Not sure why he's selling a vintage '60s box with it though, apart from to give that veneer of "vintage" :g:

Personally I'd only ever buy a 5513 that was made between introduction in '62 and say '77 - the 'vintage' period for that particular vintage watch.

Well I can say from experience that a 5513 with a Gloss dial will leave you lukewarm and still desiring a true Matte dial vintage Rolex. $3400.00 with the box and bracelet is about right. Don't get me wrong, it is a very nive watch and in very good condition. A couple of things: The over polish on the clasp/case, broken box.

However, a newer 14060 or 14060M can be had at that price with all boxes, papers and in the case of the 14060M, a much better movement.

I don't know if I have helped, but the important thing is for you to feel that your money has been well spent.

Good luck,

Kurt.

The 14060 is an icon, also predicted to be the next boom Sub (if we ever get out of this economic slump) as far as T dials go.

LOVE mine :D :D I actually traded a 14270 for this one. The little Explorer just didnt do it for me, so I picked up this one instead. Wearing the PAM048 has made me a size queen... anything smaller than 40mm feels insignificant on the wrist I'm afraid!

Good call on not getting that 5513. I agree with others who say that you get the newer tritium gloss dial and you'll be wanting a matte. That happened to me. I picked up a '82 5513 from the original owner. Original bracelet and clasp (dated to 82) and the good thing was that it was always serviced at the RSC. bad thing was the replacement Tritium gloss dial and luminova hands (latest service). I got it for a great price but still wanted a matte dial and hands for it and ended up getting some on ebay for it.

There was a tirtium 14060 U serial on timezone for $2300 the other day. Incredible price.
