Martyd3 Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 There was a post a couple of months ago about a new source for replacement cases. They looked similar to Phong's but were less than half the cost. Does anyone have that post or a link to the site? I have searched for it and can't find anything.
alligoat Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 Try Yukiwatch over in hong Kong: http://cgi.ebay.com/Full-Complete-Set-of-S...%3A1%7C294%3A50 The 1680 case used to be listed for $350 plus shipping. A friend said they will take the Rolex 1575 movt and are as good as Phong's. Also, Chris at Eurotimez has the MBW 1680 case for $165. This doesn't take a gen movt w/o some mods, if I recall correctly.
ubiquitous Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 For the MBW... I think you need a specific 1570 to fit the case right. More to do with the shape of the ring holding the date, as some cases (1500, I think) require the different ring to facilitate fit due to their smaller size. Stilty was talking about this recently... Which explains how some movements fit as-is (reinforcing the original myth behind the MBWs accepting gen movements) and some require modification to fit.

Same problem on Phong's cases, you need a 1500 (date) movement to fit in. Datejust has a different plate for the day wheel and needs to be machined before Hope this helps.
alligoat Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 Lest I forget, isn't it the gen 1680 dial is a tad too big for the MBW case?
ubiquitous Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 That is correct- The 1680 dial is too large by roughly .5mm - 1mm (don't recall exactly). Needs to be trimmed to fit properly...
