I only have a P&S camera so I don't have manual control of exposure time. The comparison will just be for colour and how long it lasts, not absolute brightness. Here are the candidates. 217 with C3 SL Gen 111j. (I messed up the white balance in this pic) Of course, it was a pretty quick decision to use this to do the timing for this test. Immediately after the lights are out. 1 minute elapsed. 2 minutes elapsed. 10 minutes elapsed. 30 minutes elapsed. At this point, the camera can barely see a thing but there's still no problem picking it up with the naked eye. It stays at this brightness for hours. Judging from the colour and how long the lume lasts, it seems that OP uses regular C3 lume and there's no need for any fancy mixing of pigments Edit: woops, made a mistake with my image labelling. Watchmeister Posted March 28, 2008 Report Share Posted March 28, 2008 I think you are addressing the luminosity issue and it is a well known fact that C3 glows better than C1 or any whiter lume. And yes the man from the East has been telling us this for a while. On the basic color I always find the debate amusing. Panerai varies its basic lume color based on year and model. I got curious and just tested a couple of Ziggified reps versus gens and it looked identical or close to it. But I have no gens more recent than the F series. slai Posted March 28, 2008 Author Report Share Posted March 28, 2008 Yeah, I was expecting more of a bluish glow from the gen...then I noticed it sitting next to the 217 in my watchbox at around 4 in the morning looking exactly the same so I decided to try a more controlled comparison. If the Genuine watch manufacturer's are all using Super Luminova, then I have always been of the opinion that SL is the best there is. It continues to amaze me that some claim to have bettered the scientists and RC Tritec and mixed up a batch of lume that out-glows and out-lasts Super Lume. It's my understanding that Lumibrite was developed by Seiko's Nemoto subsidiary, and is licensed to RC Tritec, who sell it under the name SuperLuminova. (They actually formed the joint venture LumiNova AG Switzerland, so that they could produce the licensed product in Switzerland, under a Swiss brand name, and satisfy the "Swiss Made" requirements.) I got a press release from Tritec a few weeks ago (have since thrown it out) and I think it concerned them buying the worldwide rights or something for Super Luminova... or developing a new product...I can't remember the exact details now. But yes, SL was developed in Japan, but I am not sure exactly what RC Tritec does and doesn't do in their shop, it appears that they do have a development section. I will say that the non-charged color of the lume on the dials is different between my Orange Monster and my 002D. Although, I have no idea if the OM is using plain C3 or not.
