  1. 🤣 Love those crazy salesman watches. They are the indeed the best sub.
  2. Rule is cheapest usually are the ones with bit more "tells" than the more expensive, so if compared to gens it's bit more obvious it's a rep. The more expensive usually better in closeness to the gen. But avoid the most expensive due to different movements i.e that is being touted with "Swiss movements". You wouldn't know if they stuck a Chinese movement in a supposedly Swiss movement watch, cos you'll never open the watch unless you're such an expert or you have to service it which by that time is too late to get any refunds. So if you are happy with just a rep that has some tells, buy the cheapest. If not go a bit higher but stay away from "Swiss" movement. That's just my opinion and if they are those out there who are adamant about getting Swiss movements as best, then my apologies.
  3. I've been on this forum for some time now, been off for a bit and just recently came back to check. I see lots of new members joining and see similar questions that I have seen years ago. So I thought I just want to pass on some of my insights as a small time collector to the bros here. 1. Almost all reps will have issues - get used to it. Problems could range from movement stopping, bracelet breaking, hand stack not aligned, and other cosmetics issues. The only rep that didn't give me any issues was a Rolex all gold which was one I seldom wear. My advice would be to find a good watchmaker who is happy to work with reps. 2. Resolving issues - sending problematic watches back to the dealer is bit of pot luck, you could sometimes get lucky and the watch is repaired properly. In my experience, the hit rate is about 50%, so some watches that were sent back came back with the issue not fixed. I think best bet is not to send them back, try to get local repairer or if you could find one in this site. 3. Even so called trusted dealers here can be dodgy at time - my experience is that even when you buy Swiss movement, you could actually end up with an Asian / Chinese movement. I have had gotten a watch which I thought I paid more for Swiss but when it was repaired, the watchmaker told me it's just Asian movement. So my advice is don't pay more for fancy movements which is marketing hype, just buy the ones with the Asian movement which is usually $50 cheaper or thereabouts. Then get it serviced and it should last a long time. 4. Which is best rep i.e best Sub etc? - the cheeky answer is the Gen one. Unless you are prepared to spend $$ to mod and replace parts, any rep is still just that , a clone. It will not match the gen. Having said that these days there are some very good clones. Think you can find some threads on some good ones. My advice is really to find a rep (style / design) that you like and just get it. If it makes you happy then that's all that matters. 5. Learn, and continue learning - this forum is full of experts who can tell you all the intricacies of the various models. This hobby can be addictive, and only way you can become knowledgeable is to keep reading and researching not just in this forum, but other forums too and even on forums about the gen watches. I like to think the members here who has contributed so much knowledge to the community. Well done guys! Have fun!
  4. Thanks Ryaku. Where can I get one of these A2836 movement? I found this on Ofrei, it's a Selita movement that is a clone of ETA-2836-2. http://www.ofrei.com/page_181.html Will that fit?
  5. Hi,My Omega Seamaster is dead, though it was serviced once. I am thinking of replacing the entire movement rather than trying to repair it. Can anyone advice me which watch movement to get for this watch? Will a generic Selita movement or Miyota fit into this watch? The real Omega movement may be a bit too expensive but will that fit? Best if you could also provide a link where I can purchase the movement. Thanks in advance for this wonderful community of rep owners who has the knowledge to assist. Cheers, Nick
  6. Since it's new, best to contact the dealer and send it back. Don't worry about China customs, I have sent watches back without any issues. You will only incur the costs to send it back, rest of it is the dealer's. If you try to get it fixed locally, the costs will be more than the shipping.
  7. Back to my 390 Sent from my X9009 using Tapatalk
  8. Go try the roast goose at this restaurant called Yung Kee. It's in Wellington St HK Central. Try the HK style cafe , I usually go to the one called Tsui Wah (various locations). Have drinks at the Skye Bar in the Pullman Hotel at night. Go for a walk at the Tsim Tsa Tsui waterfront and take pictures of the HK skyline.
  9. Sad news indeed. MY deepest condolences to his family. He mentioned before about getting gen watch before he passed so his son will know he's gen. Wonder if he managed to do that? But his character is absolutely gen by any measure.RIP.
  10. Hey Nanuq, yeah I'm into playing chords. plenty of guitar tabs on the net.
  11. Ok I can report back, this watch repair which I found in Melbourne was able to fix my DSSD which had stopped running. The winding is now very smooth and watch runs perfectly. The only gripe is she is quite slow in her work, maybe lots of banked up jobs. Expect in excess on one month for repair job.
  12. Not according to his blog all non usa orders are shipped from China..
