  1. So I was in contact with Reg, looking for the 16710. Well long story goes that MBK/MBW have a 1675 full kit without a movement. Evidently the movements are hard to come by, and the 2893 is pricy, so they just do the full kit. Dial, case, hands, bracelet. So I have 2 questions for everyone while I wait for the pics from Reg. Is there any issue using an off the shelf ETA 2893 like this one? http://www.ebay.com/...#ht_4202wt_1401 Also, has anyone ever seen one of these pieces? I searched many different combinations of terms and could not come up with anything. If anyone has, what were the impressions? Thanks in advance for the help. Best Regards, John

  3. All it takes is long enough, and they continually show themselves up   Why would someone take two different photos of the same watch under circumstances like these? Come on, there is no justifying this kind of behaviour, it's insulting the intelligence of the buyer, and as they know full well that QC pics will be posted here and scrutinized, by extension, insulting the community as well. And people wonder why I don't deal with Trusted Dealers... Disgraceful... Next time you order from Josh ( ) try telling him he'll get his money in three to five days, and see how fast you get dealt with...

  6. What is the problem now? Has the movement been (properly) overhauled since you received it? My point is that while this movement may very well have inherent flaws, you cannot really know whether a problem is due to a design flaw or simply poor overall condition. Even the generally bullet-proof 1570 will crash & burn within seconds if improperly maintained. As is the case with most reps (& pre-assembled frankens), movements from Asia tend to arrive in poor overall condition & in need of an overhaul. So the only way to gauge the inherent quality of this movement is to have it properly serviced (so the usual problems of dirt, improper lubrication & poor adjustment can be ruled out) & then see how she behaves.

  7. My wife is an architect and recently she got a very tempting offer from one of the firms in Melbourne to move to Australia for 5 years and to lead a few very interesting projects (yeah, unlike me, my wife is a freaken superstar). Apart from the obviously flattering offer and the amazing opportunity to live in a very special and a different place, we are a bit concerned about the financial part of this offer. While on paper her future salary seems substantial, we have almost zero information on Australia, we don't have any friends or family there and the more I read, the more I understand, that we need a first hand input on the financial situation there. The plot thickens since I ran a web design and development business, which I'll probably have to close, and we aren't sure that I'll be able to get a work permit in Australia. I might be able to freelance a bit, but we obviously don't want to do anything illegal, so we can not count on it. This may leave us with my wife's salary as a sole source of income for our family. My question is this: from your experience what kind of "real life" cost of living are we looking at? We've been reading a lot in the past few days, but all we can find is gov't statements, averages and promises from my wife's future employers, but not from "real" people. We understand that cost of living is a bit subjective, but given the fact that we are looking for an "interesting experience" more than living the "good life", we are prepared to compromise on our standards. We just don't want to go broke, haha. Also I'm interested in any thoughts you may offer regarding living in Australia, not necessarily financial. Anything you can think of, that can help us reach a decision. The reason I'm asking here is because apart from the watch aficionados I find this place filled with interesting people with wide scope of opinions, plus a more mature audience, if you know what I mean. Seriously, guys, any input will be highly appreciated! Cheers.
