  1. I got one of these and it had all the flaws of an end of the run special. SEL fit was horrendous and the movement worked for about 2 days. Poor MD2020 has been struggling to make it run for months. Finally got it working and one of the hands split trying to put them back on. I'm hopeful one day it will return and I can fix the SEL fit with my dremmel and maybe have a great watch. It was a good looking sucker.

  2. It is also a money thing in manufacturing, if you design lots of watches, day date, date no date, gmt around one movement then you simplify the manufacturing process and the stock holding by only needing one movement type. it happens alot, take for example the BMW X1, they all have the same engine, software ect but it is not set up the same in all models, so in principle they bult the same car just the power is swiched higher in some models. Apparently the VW group WILL start fitting and building all cars the same, GPS, traction control, power ect you just pay to have it made available to you, I am sure there will be a big market in Jailbraking cars soon

  5. Back at Christmas time he had a blow out special from the maker. http://www.rwgforum.net/index.php?/topic/153443-Anyone-else-see-Toro's-$148-Xmas-Special---Ebel-1911-BTR's-and-Discovery's-w/-a7750

  7. Post a macro picture of the movement. Perhaps we can help. The Mark has a 2892 copy which is easy to work on for every watchmaker.

  8. Sad to hear. I assume it is the newest version with A 2892? The Asian 2893 seems to be more troublesome than the 2824 and 2836 clones.. I remember The Zigmeister will not work on the A2892. My Mark XVI died after a month of intermittent use. I sent it off to Domi in Germany for service, and it has been loyal ever since. It also feels better when setting time and date. It is such a great watch, well worth to have it serviced. I bought the new Mark XVII with the same movement, and actually paid extra to have the movement serviced before shipping. So far it runs good (fingers crossed).

  9. "Thanks for your input my friend, I'm no newbie when it comes to reps, get several years experience" I knew that but it did'nt show. I see 5 basic classes of rolex 16610 replicas and I will always go with lower buck watches for beaters same as you did in this case. I always believed a real world beater (genuine or replica) should not cost very much to begin with or to maintain and repair. (When I see TZ/TURF etc types bragging about buying a new or 'like new' rolex etc for a beater I have to roll my eyes because it seems (to me) to be a thinly veiled attempt to show they have $$ to pizz away. I do not have that luxury.) My five categories of 16610 replicas: 1...Canal Street junk (easy to spot and mostly what we see in the real world) 2...pretty good cases/bracelets/dials with Seagull/DG/NN etc movements...many detail mistakes and not too hard to spot from 6 feet away especially with the 21600 second hand stutter (the '6 foot test') 3...high line cases/bracelets/dials with etaclones...hard to spot as a replica from 6 feet away 4...top of the line cases/bracelets/dials with swiss Eta movements...very hard to spot from 6 feet away 5...Frankenstein watches with top of the line TC etc cases/bracelets geuine movements, dials etc...pass for genuine from 6 feet away and up close without a magnifier "I'm getting a TC LV Sub V4or5 eventually" I would get one in a NYC minute if I was not loaded up in vintage stuff. "The LV sub in this thread was originally purchased from Eddie Lee (old timer TD from back in the day)." I never bought anything from Eddie Lee but bought some stuff from River and Paul. Turns out all the Abay/Womart $159 swisseta submariners with the 'fall on the floor' bezels were not so bad after all since Clark's came out with bezel kits and crystals. The Abay/Womart cases are not oem spec all over but will accept oem spec crystals, bezels, case tubes etc. I have a modified Ab/Wo 5514 'comex' with swisseta 2846 on right now. Got skinned by Watchlover David in 1999/2000.

  10. I told my TD as soon as I opened the package, and so he knows about it. He said to keep an eye on it and see what happens. Still keeps fine time and I actually think the noise has improved a little since I removed the caseback. Nonetheless, I was going to take it to a local watchsmith that works on reps, but I figured that since I love the watch, I already reached out to Vac, thinking that I might as well get it serviced. Also, it doesn't look like the Don Ramon comes lumed, and I thought that maybe I would have him lume it while he had it, killing two birds with one stone!

  12. Yep life is found in the great outdoors. I don't want to look back some day and wish I'd found more of it. I figure if I fall asleep each night utterly exhausted with a new memory, then I've traded that day for something worthwhile. Seize The Day.

  13. When I figured that trick out it was kind of like those speakers in The Itialan Job. Blew my pants off the results that it came back with.
