  1. As a recent project I purchased a Hublot 4000 in an M2M deal that required some work. It had an H screw missing (thanks Toro), damaged AR coating that really let her down and wasn't running well. So the H Screw was easy'ish' and the full strip down service was undertaken by a guy I now consider as more than just a modder but a friend 'SSTEEEL' aka Mickey performed a wonderful full service on the movement and waterproofing. I also managed to secure, after much searching a UK company that will perform AR Coating for me through an aquiantance at a very reasonable cost (PM me if you need AR). So the finished result is a beautifully working, looking and waterproof Hublot 4000 Diver, many thanks to those involved. Regards AJ

  2. Jake is struggling through a bus station with two huge and obviously heavy suitcases when a stranger walks up to him and asks “Have you got the time?” Jake sighs, puts down the suitcases and glances at his wrist. “It’s a quarter to six,” he says. “Hey, that’s a pretty fancy watch!” exclaims the stranger. Jake brightens a little. “Yeah, it’s not bad. It’s an invention of mine I’ve been working on. Check this out” – and he shows him a time zone display not just for every time zone in the world, but for the 86 largest metropolises. He hits a few buttons and from somewhere on the watch a voice says “The time is eleven ’til six” in a very West Texas accent. A few more buttons and the same voice says something in Japanese. Jake continues “I’ve put in regional accents for each city”. The display is unbelievably high quality and the voice is simply astounding. The stranger is struck dumb with admiration. “That’s not all”, says Jake. He pushes a few more buttons and a tiny but very high-resolution map of New York City appears on the display. “The flashing dot shows our location by satellite positioning,” explains Jake. “Zoom out”, Jake says, and the display changes to show all of eastern New York state. “I want to buy this watch!” says the stranger. “Oh, no, it’s not ready for sale yet; I’m still working out the bugs”, says the inventor. “But look at this”, and he proceeds to demonstrate that the watch is also a very creditable little FM radio receiver with a digital tuner, a sonar device that can measure distances up to 125 meters, a pager with thermal paper printout and, most impressive of all, the capacity for voice recordings of up to 300 standard-size books, “though I only have 32 of my favorites in there so far” says Jake. “I’ve got to have this watch!”, says the stranger. “No, you don’t understand; it’s not ready…” “I’ll give you $1000 for it!” “Oh, no, I’ve already spent more than…” “I’ll give you $5000 for it!” “But it’s just not…” “I’ll give you $15,000 for it!” And the stranger pulls out a checkbook. Jake stops to think. He’s only put about $8500 into materials and development, and with $15,000 he can make another one and have it ready for merchandising in only six months. The stranger frantically finishes writing the check and waves it in front of him. “Here it is, ready to hand to you right here and now. $15,000. Take it or leave it.” Jake abruptly makes his decision. “OK”, he says, and peels off the watch. They make the exchange and the stranger starts happily away. “Hey, wait a minute”, calls Jake after the stranger, who turns around warily. Jake points to the two suitcases he’d been trying to wrestle through the bus station. . “Don’t forget your batteries.”

  3. I always recommend members to go get a gen 16610 insert for a reason, it is simply just beautiful! Beautiful how? Our eyes and our brains conceive its beauty but we can not always translate that beauty into plain English. My interpretation of that beauty is a flat and matte insert plus a well polished pearl holder plus a shiny corundum pearl. In my quest for the perfect Submariner 16610, the insert along with its pearl has always been a big challenge. This very specific part is actually an assembly of the aluminum insert, the corundum pearl, and the pearl holder. There is luminescent applied carefully and evenly within the pearl holder so the pearl could "glow in the dark". When I started the insert project in 2012, I thought the pearl holder is made of stainless steel. So I took the liberty being a partner of a local metal part manufacturer and made a batch of the pearl holder. Those stainless steel pearl holders were on every Caddell vintage insert I shipped out along with TC Sub V6 as freebies. This April, a member who bought a TC Sub V6 wrote me saying he has a theory: the gen pearl holder may be made from the same material as the KH 16610 dial indices. So I asked my friend to make me some samples to see if this theory is true. I had to use my microscope since this is late in the night and I couldn't capture anything clearly with my Canon. This is the stainless steel pearl holder on Caddell vintage insert. This is the new pearl holder I just received. How do you like it, gentlemen? TC 10/10/14

  4. I've posted this before( http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/173625-finished-rolex-1016-build/ ) but as it was my first build that I've done I thought I would post it in for the comp (though there is stiff competition). My Rolex 1016 JMB Vintage Explorer Case (set including crown, crystal, tube, caseback etc etc) Yuki 1016 Dial Combination of Yuki and Clark hands (for ETA) (due to bending hands in my inexperience) Gen ETA 2824-2 (from vintage donor watch) Previously I was wearing it with the original JMB dial on a leather nato strap that I had lying around (was 22mm so it didn't fit quite right with the 20mm lugs) but I decided that when I ordered the dial I would also order a bracelet. Wanting to keep the price of this build down as low as possible for the moment I chose the "Rolex 20mm Solid replacement Bracelet" (marked 93135). For me this really completed the tool watch look that I was going for. The reason that I chose a 1016 is that I like the simplicity of the vintage rolex (that doesn't scream that it's a rolex) and that it is a tool watch that I can keep on my wrist and it should be fine to wear in (as opposed to some watches that I have worn that have left me scared of scratching it for fear of ruining it). I'm glad to have finally completed my first build after waiting so long to buy my first rep (which died very soon after) I know that I should be able to trust this watch to not die quite so soon.

  6. Hi everyone, I've just started work on my vintage Jaeger Lecoultre franken and thought I'd share my progress with anyone who is interested. Firstly I have sourced a mid sixties JLC K800c manual wind movement, complete with dial and hands from eBay (if I remember rightly, it cost about £70). It is in very good working condition and keeps time well (although not accurately measured as yet). I have decided to get the dial restored, so removed it and posted it off to D R Bill and Sons, who by all accounts are very good. I did want the dial to be more of a silver colour instead of the current "champagne" it should be. Hopefully, it should look good with the case I have sourced (more of that in the next post). Anyway, here are some more pictures I took when removing the dial to send away. So, that's all for now...... Plenty more to come.

  9. I hope you didn't buy a WSO click spring. I got one of those not too long ago and they're too long. The bezel doesn't turn with them on.

  12. I can't say I have a favorite as I love all my 17 vintage rollies, but I'll put my 1016 on the table as the case reshaping job was not an easy task..... And rather exciting to do ! See all pics and specs here : http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/169685-rolex-1016-built-mod-a-jmb-case-to-gen-specs-lots-of-pics/?hl=%2Brolojack+%2B1016#entry1333458

  15. All very nice builds. Great idea for a thread. I've done 3 builds for myself, and I submit 2 of those here for your entertainment. The 7021/0 started life as a 1680. Mods are dial, hands, bezel insert, bezel tension ring, crown, ETA 2824-2, and 93150 bracelet. The Date-Day started as a Day-Date. Mods are dial, hands and new DG-2812. Cheers

  19. This was in the family since the 1930´s and just given to me. They really knew how to make watches with running seconds at six back than. Gave it a wind and it runs like a charm keeping COSC time - incredible as it was in a drawer for ? Years. 24 hour scale on the outer rim, I like the gilt hands on it. Have yet to figure out how the backcase opens.
