  2. I can't seem to catch much luck these days with the TDs. I've bought 3 watches from puretime and 2 came in bad shape. First I received a blue dial DJII and when it came the paint had chipped off the dial, they refused to send me a new dial cause the QC images did not reveal this (perhaps shipping damage?) Ordered a new dial from intime and figured ok no big deal I'll have to just bite the bullet on this one. Now I pretty much lost my cool with the last order. Day-date II ordered and what I received is by no means even acceptable! The watch has rotor parts rattling around inside, the stem is coming all the way out and no matter how much I wind it it will not run. There is no way this watch could have passed QC!!! AND IT still is shipped to me! All I have to say from MY experience is BUYER BEWARE

  3. So I just replaced the only aftermarket part left on my 1675; the crystal retaining ring. Before I put it on, thought I'd take a couple of comparison photos for those that care. Other than not fitting the bezel quite right, there some minor details that can help you with identifying a rep from the real thing. Tough to tell just by looking at it quickly: But under a loupe, the rep (on the right) is milled with slightly larger grooves. The gen on the left, is milled much finer and reflects light in a rainbow hue at certain angles: The underside of the gen is slightly beveled/chamfered where the rep is not: Now that it's installed, I feel much better now! 4. One post, not even as much as a thank you. If some people acted this way in life they would never get anywhere, Just because you are on a forum doesn't give you the right to break down the door and throw out a question that you could have looked up on your own if you weren't so lazy. BTW, welcome to the forum, no go learn some manners.

  6. I just re-read the whole thread and what I see here is a parade of grumpy egos, nothing less nothing more. Sad to see this coming from long, established and reputable members. On the other hand it's funny how those who defend rolli are those who bought his dials and those who detract him are those who didn't. Is that really a coincidence? I could care less to compare 20.000 pics that are shot in different light conditions, with different cameras, lenses and distance from the object, enlarged or shrunk to appear the same resolution when they aren't, and besides showing dials of different series. Even in the same series a very tiny variation in the finer detail is possible, even for the mighty swiss makers. The indices appear to be fatter than some of the gen pics shown, so what? This remains the absolute best result achieved so far in replicating a 000 dial. You might want to buy it or not, nobody is forcing anyone. Fact is that every batch has been sold out despite this awful job of bashing the seller. I get that rolli could reply in a less harsh way, but I also get he dedicated years (and most likely a discrete sum of money) to achieve these results and sell them to a few enthusiasts, not to defend himself from these repeated accusations. Please stop the mud slinging and enjoy the hobby

  8. Well done, Tom. All that is needed now is some 'natural' wear & patina. Many years ago, I had a similar 'happy accident' that lit my path on the road to frankens & gens. I came across a TZ post from a guy who had an unused 3035 he received from Rolex as part of a display his company was contracted to make for them. In the end, the display never got used & he did not need/want the movement. For some reason, the post completely missed the attentions of most TZ readers (especially, those who would instantly appreciate the value of a NOS 3035), so I was able to pick it up for a song. This led to my putting together my 1st franken-gen (a 100% gen watch assembled out of gen parts from disparate sources). And the rest, as they say, is history.
