I have been looking for a Gen blue dial for a sweet Franken 116000/34 Oyster Perpetual No-Date 36mm but they are rare. I found a silver gen dial for $350 but really wanted a blue dial plus my budget was $250. Some where in the process i decided to give it a rest and I acquired a tritium 14270 T<25 dial....I guess I settle for less..maybe? I still wasnt satisfied so i sat on this dial for a few months. Few weeks a ago i decided to start my search again and guess what i found a 28mm dial for a vintage Oyster Perpetual No-Date 36mm. Until that point I never knew Oyster Perpetuals came in 36mm before year 2000. Ofcourse I bought the dial and then furthered my research. Come to find out it was a ref. 1018 i have been trying to discover. Ref 1018 wasnt too popular vs Ref 1016 with very similar DNA. I found a hand full of pics for SS but none for TT or 14k capped /FG model. I read in a few threads on VRF & TRF that mentioned rolex did make them in TT & 14k FG. I also found out in my rolex parts ibook the parts specs...T21 plexi & 5.3mm crown(unlike 1016 with 6mm). I though i'd share this with you since this proved to be a very useful info for many people. I'm constantly getting pms asking what size is the strap for model z,y,x; will a strap x fit a watch y; will the diver buckle fit 44mm ROO strap and so on, so i decided to write a small memo. Diver strap (all divers from v2 onwards, including FC, Ceramic, QEII and fantasies) : width at the case is 28, taper to 24 at the buckle has oblong holes for the pin of about 7.5mm each. Noob and JF diver straps are interchangeable. Regular length is 115/75, XS 105/65 42mm noob straps: width at the case is 28 and then tapers to 18mm at the buckle (deployant) has round holes 2mm in diameter. Don't fit well on divers or Jf 42mm roos, so they are not interchangeable if you want a perfect fit. (isn't it the most important thing in a good strap ?) Regular length 105/70 novelty (SIHH 2014) 42mm from JF: width at the case 28, tapers to 20 at the buckle, has oblong holes for the buckle pin of about 5.5mm. So the buckle has the same style but it is narrower than diver buckle. 44mm ROOs(also schumis and GPs): width at the case is 30, tapers to 24, same buckle as the diver. Regular length - 115/75, XS 105/65 Feel free to add.

So I just replaced the only aftermarket part left on my 1675; the crystal retaining ring. Before I put it on, thought I'd take a couple of comparison photos for those that care. Other than not fitting the bezel quite right, there some minor details that can help you with identifying a rep from the real thing. Tough to tell just by looking at it quickly: But under a loupe, the rep (on the right) is milled with slightly larger grooves. The gen on the left, is milled much finer and reflects light in a rainbow hue at certain angles: The underside of the gen is slightly beveled/chamfered where the rep is not: Now that it's installed, I feel much better now! Many of you are probably not familiar with me - I am an older member who used to visit here daily up until about 5 or so years ago. Much less so recently, in fact my visits over the past week or so have probably been my first in a number of years. When I first stumbled upon the old site, 12 or so years ago,I thought I hit nirvana. While I am hardly an expert in fine watches, I have always had an intense interest in them so this place was like gold to me. It offered great fellowship, access to real experts and an opportunity to learn a lot about a luxury commodity that has always interested me. Also access to great dealers who offered high quality products at very reasonable prices. I have to say, I am heartened to note that that fellowship and expertise still characterizes this site today. Not so much the great products and reasonable prices thing. My first rep (one I am wearing now in fact) was purchased about 11 or so years ago. It is an Eddie Lee PAM 029 GMT with a ETA 2892 movement. I think the price was in the neighborhood of $600 or so. It remains my best and favorite rep, and in fact one of my favorite watches period (I have since acquired some nice gens as well). In addition to being a beautiful watch, this thing is bullet proof. It keeps great time, and is virtually indestructible. In the years that followed I picked up many similar great pieces. Among my favorites are a 4th gen UPO, a 42 MM Bond UPO, a 2 tone Eddie Lee Sub,a Seadweller, and a BK modded noob LV sub. These pieces all run as well today as they did when I purchased them, and remain in my rotation. The common denominators? Bullet proof ETA movements the at were reasonably priced. Back than you could pick up a quality sub with a 2836 movement for $200-$250, a bit more for the modded pieces. It all went downhill for me when ETA movements became difficult to source. Some of the newer reps really look great but the asian movements are just not cutting it for me- in fact none of my more recently acquired asian clones work today. For instance, my last purchase maybe 5 or so years ago, was a gorgeous v2 Avenger which died maybe 3 months after purchase. I just find that prices are higher and the movements are [censored]. I came to conclude that unless you are a trained watch smith, and have access to quality ETA movements, it just isn't worth it anymore, and the golden age of reps is over. I will say that I am heartened to see that the fine fellowship, expertise, and sharing that always characterized this forum continues to exist today. This always was the best run and friendliest rep watch forum on the net, and my bet is is still is today. Cheers.
