  2. I haven't been contributing to the forum for quite a while given that I hardly bought new rep watches. But I bought a few gen watches. But most gen vintage Rolex case condition is not that good compared to the modded rep one. So i can't really give a good pics to show as well. This one has quite a good case and in a good condition, so I will post some pics for modding reference. When I first started venturing into Vintage Rolex, the 2 models that caught my eye was Sub 1680 and Explorer 1655. But in order to save shipping fee, I got myself a 1665 as well. I never thought it is a special watch and I would have never thought that i will grow to like it. But once I saw the finished 1665 (done by pbdad), I am hooked. Over time I have bought and sold a few 1665. My friend happens to have a gen one, so I always compared what I have with his gen, but the rep always came up short. The part bugged me the most is that the lug size is always fatter in rep case. I have gone through only cartel and MBW case, so I can;t say for yuki or phong case, but looking from pics, I think all of them has fat lug. Again, with Rolex, you could never know. Maybe there are case variations among different years. So this thread is based on my Mark1 dial case and my friend Mark4 dial case (which looks similar to me). PIC: My old MBW case build: Please let me know if there is part of the watch that you want me to show. I will update the thread form time to time. Thanks

  5. I'm sure the Gen dial will fit as I've got one in mine bud JF 15400 the only thing is the date (on some days) is slightly misaligned to one side, I'm waiting to get bored with it then its off to the modders to sort it out. As far as the fitment is concerned I'm not sure as I bought it already fitted but I can check for you if you wish just let me know...Gen dials are running about 1100 for the black atm I'm told

  7. That's pretty nice! It's a nice subtle alternative to a Daytona. I might have to get one also! The sub-dial at 6 is not functional, right? How does the thickness of the case compare to the gen? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. Great results. The swap for the thinner hands makes a difference. Subtle. But quite obvious when you compare them. Well done [emoji1303] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. Very nice!!! I may have to order one of these myself I like the idea of sterilizing the dial and just wear as is after waterproofing and working the case. Thanks for sharing. E Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. Not good. The movement parts have not been refinished. It looks like only two bridges were swapped. That's not a proper conversion. Rolex refinished each part by hand, the edges of even the tiniest parts and springs are beveled & polished on the sides. See the picture below to give you a better idea. The balance bride looks like it has been changed to one with KIF shock protection and the Rolex marked chrono bridge was added. I can't tell from a picture whether the amplitude has been converted to 21600bph. However - just swapping the balance is not enough, you need to translate the amplitude via gears for correct time keeping. If you keep the same gears & change the amplitude, the watch won't run accurate anymore. I highly doubt someone would go through all the trouble to find a 21600bph balance wheel & spring, change many of the gears inside the movement, but then stop at refinishing all the visible parts. Below is the level of finish that I expect from a genuine Rolex 72B or 727. I'm sure you can instantly see that all the movement parts on your pic look much "rougher" and nowhere near as nice & smooth as on the picture below.

  14. Interesting theory. But I think in reality there are one, two or three factories in China who have monopoly on the Rolex reps, and they're simply not capable of doing very good job. Only one of them (the "Noob" factory... or whatever it's called) can make good replicas. Rest of the Chinese Rolex reps (from other factories) are simply crap. This is just a guess of course, but to me the "monopoly theory" (mafia controlling the market, or whatever...) sounds much more likely than any kind of "agreement with Rolex". I think it was Pugwash who originally posted that one. For example the factory that replicated TAG Link and Aquaracer was able to make almost perfect job. Both of those watches are much more complicated (design wise) than any Rolex ever produced. Lots of other examples too (BCE, SFSO, etc.)
