  4. Well after I "stopped by to say hi" at the introduction page I went and pulled the trigger on a Panerai Radiomir Black Seal at www.puretimewatch.pw and was given payment instruction via WU. So, I had done lots of research on Pure Time and it looked awesome however...HOWEVER...this particular website has taken the PureTime03 (The good guys) stock photos, logo and descriptions and made a BS website. So after sending the $ I stumbled upon a reddit string where several folks mentioned ordering from here, getting an email from "Jason Anderow" for payment instructions and once payment was made and picked up....he goes silent and no show's the watch. I was able to cancel my payment before it was picked up and through further research found this WONDERFUL place. I've since (this last Saturday) placed my order w/ Puretime03. Looking forward to seeing this piece show up!! SlimJones

  5. I've bought a few reps in my time and now I've started having a few frankens built. After looking at the amount I'm spending(investing?) I could buy a quite nice gen. I'm guessing that for some of our gifted members (myself not included) it's a labour of love: the journey is greater than the destination. For myself however it's about the end result. For example, my white Seamaster chronograph, built by @SSTEEL, is beautiful in every way, but at around 25-30% of the cost of a gen is that too much? Although this one is probably 'better' than most gens (unless diving) as it has a double AR crystal, new lume and is all shinny not beaten up. So, what's the consensus? How much is too much?

  6. Well guys went looking for something for our next raffle and well along with a bunch of reps as I always try to include a gen or two this was the buy , hope you like it! In the mid-1950s the major civilian airlines were increasingly offering transatlantic flights, which created for the pilots the need for a wristwatch that was able to show a second time in addition to the regular one, individually adjustable, to display two different time zones at a single glance. So a wristwatch was developed in Switzerland in 1954 that enjoys to this day both in the civil and military aviation great popularity. To pay tribute to this extraordinary time, we have designed the STEINHART Ocean One Vintage Dual Time PREMIUM a compact wristwatch featuring a second time zone (dual time) and a date complication, which displays the even days in red colour and the odd days in black. The first thing that catches the eye is the extraordinary dial, whose multiple facets are nearly impossible to capture in a photo. The silvery shiny, gray-beige tone is additionally superimposed by a radial gradient, which extends from light to darker from the center outwards to the edge of the dial, underlining magnificently the vintage character of this extraordinary watch. The markers and hands are lavishly equipped with luminous colour which, with its natural ecru tone, mimics the appearance of aged radium, or tritium, once again citing the historic character of the STEINHART Ocean One Vintage Dual Time PREMIUM The second time zone can be adjusted individually by either the fourth hand, painted in red with a small arrowhead, as well as by setting the unidirectional rotating bezel, which features a two-tone aluminum inlay with 24-hour scale. All four hands as well as the two-tone date are driven by a new movement, developed by the Swiss company Soprod, the SOP A10-24hTop. Just like the sister without dual time complication, the A10-24h also impresses with a lush and detailed decoration, which is additionally crowned with the skeletonized, gilt STEINHART rotor. It goes without saying that so much beauty should not be hidden under a solid steel case back and so this masterpiece of precision can be admired through the glass of an exhibition case back. And if that were not enough to make the heart of every collector beat faster, the STEINHART Ocean One Vintage Dual Time PREMIUM also makes use of the highly domed sapphire crystal, which already enjoys big popularity as a feature of our Ocean One Vintage. Whether one prefers it on the stainless steel bracelet or rather the padded leather strap, the STEINHART Ocean One Vintage Dual Time sure is a must for every wristwatch fan! 7. A Gerald Genta community meeting. Despite thinking so, apparently not all of the attendees were penned/sketched by Mr. Genta! What a party!

  11. I was following a similar RWI thread by the same author prior to the site going down. I was contemplating sending my insert to him (I forget exactly where he was located, but he was outside the CONUS). The problem everyone was running into was that he wasn't stocking REP inserts and you had to remove/send him your insert, wait a couple of weeks and then re-install. Most guys aren't comfortable trying to remove the ceramic insert because it's fragile and easily broken - so there was the added cost of sending it to someone to remove the insert first... To be honest, if this guy was stocking REP inserts, plating them for ~$290 and all I had to do was send my watch back to BK for swapping the insert, I would have already done it... The great thing about this "old school" method is that one doesn't even need to remove the Insert from the watch and it cost me ~$7 and about 1 hour of time. And the results speak for themselves. In addition, to test the long term durability - I attempted to remove the silver permanent marker with alcohol and it wasn't easy (took a fair amount of scrubbing with a fine brush). As @altesporsche mentioned, these were designed to be used in industrial environments. Previous discussions regarding cheap Insert painting mods had guys using hobby paint that they would dilute to match the GEN silver insert color. These hobby paints were not very durable and would easy wear off over time. IMHO this is the best solution for easy of application, durability and cost effectiveness.

  14. I just finished performing this mod. It's was ridiculously easy. I used some 90% Isopropyl Alcohol to clean the insert first (allow the alcohol to dry fully), applied the sharpie to the insert (didn't really worry about using too much), used a fine brush to smooth out any rough spots, then used a dry (clean) cloth to gently rub away the excess on the ceramic portion of the insert. The hardest part was painting around the pearl in the triangle. End result looks awesome! I didn't take a before shot, however, prior to this mod - while sitting in my watch box, I would look at the dull dark insert color and would be annoyed by how dark it was. Now, it looks like a proper 95% GEN looking insert! @altesporsche you are a genius, thank you sir!

  15. Cool. I'm going to try it. I just went to Michaels and got one along with few other paints. I'll also post share some pics here of the results if you don't mind?

  16. Directly over the paint that was there. Sharpies have a really good bonding agent in them and hard to remove when dry.

  17. I used a sharpie marker see the photo below, I only have gen inserts in my builds now, so I'm testing this out for the sake of the community ? I have another marker I need to check today, if you want to wait it may even be better. You see platinum isn't a shiny metal it's actually a dull grey that catches light a little different than gold or silver. When you see shiny platinum it's plated with rhodium or pladium etc.. by products of platinum production that have very high reflective properties. For example "white gold" is plated with rhodium for its reflective shine. I have a chrome marker im picking up today that I will try as well and I think given the textured base in the indices it will dull out the bright chrome to a sheen much like the gen color, or so I hope lol anyways I'll post on this later. Doing this as a little project to keep sane lol when I can get away from being a new dad ? Cheers fellas ! Here is the sharpie I used just incase anyone doesn't want to wait lol
