  1. To the OP, first welcome aboard. We try hard to treat new members with respect and patience. Most of us " old guys" remember when we were noobs and most of us stayed here because we could ask questions with out being insulted or flamed. We may not be the biggest, but we are the best!) 3. I remember back in the days, I was not even aware of the existence of submariners . Just à Panerai guy. Then over lurking some forums for years, talking to people, reading hours and hours.. Took some YouTube and DIY watchmaking class.. 10 years after I'm building passionately Franken subs and GMTs.. Some guy at work trying to (nicely) impress, asked me about my gen 16600 : "Oh, did you know that your Rolex watch is made from a special steel?" And we discussed about 316, 905 etc for 2 hours. And Switzerland trips just to approach the holy grail. Crazy world of Rolex technical aficionados

  4. 42mm is the exact size of the original 5218-301/A Mare Nostrum, 5218-302 Slytech Mare Nostrum and 5218-304 Slytech Mare Nostrum (bezel without graduation). It's a re-edition to the original Pre-V MN with same caliber ETA 2801-2 fitted with a Dubois-Dèpraz chronograph module, I don't see why they would have changed the size. For once a re-edition is exactly similar! I think there are already enough choices in bigger size from Panerai. Who has already been able to wear a PAM300 (52mm) without his table neighbor saying "WAOU you can attach a clock on your wrist?" PAM716 is a good marketing stunt for Panerai, but be aware that this wasn't a very good deal at the time for OP S.p.A, they have long been stocked and 435 unsold were transferred to Vendome group in 1997. 1000 Mare Nostrum 301/A were manufactured by OP S.p.A (990 + 10 prototype), on this 1000 MN, 489 was sold by OP S.p.A, 397 transferred to the Vendome Group, 100 used to make Slytech watches, 7 given as prizes, 3 gifted to Com.Sub.In, 2 sold to MM, 2 given to MM and on the 100 Slytech 31 MN302 sol by OP S.p.A, 19 MN302 transferred to the Vendome Group - same number for MN304. I like this Panerai, it's an atypical Panerai but it has charm and is unique. But sincerely I find it stupid to buy a re-edition at 10,000 € while looking for a bit we find the original pre-V MN with mahogany box, Pre-V screwdriver, original strap and libretto at 12,000€ !

  5. Thank you! Here you go, just took this. It lines up very well; the bezel is a little rotated CW, so that is why it is not centered with respect to the dial. With this in mind, it suggests to me that the only way a JF rehaut could be wokky is if it is shallower than gen. That would also suggest that the case construction is not 1:1, as it would require the movement to move further forward in the case, and would alter the crown position. If I have this wrong, I welcome someone to correct me.

  7. This watch has served as my beater of choice for the last seven years or so, and it certainly looks like it! Amazingly it still keeps great time, especially since I think all of the Porikka watches just had asian 21j movements. Tragedy struck this weekend however; I checked the time after lunch and noticed that my watch had stopped. I figured the 21j had finally given up the ghost, but then I noticed that the 3 hour marker had popped out and was tangled up with the second hand. I gave it a bit of a shake, the second hand broke free of the 3hr marker, and began ticking away as normal. I should have stopped the movement right there, but I didn't want to stop the movement indefinitely with the spring loaded, and figured I'd just let it wind itself down. Unfortunately, at some point before the movement wound down, the 3hr marker got tangled up with the second hand again and the 2hr marker popped up as well. It seems a bit silly to invest a lot of time and/or money in fixing this thing given it's age and condition, but I won't say I'm not tempted. Realistically though, I think it's time for me to start looking for a new beater... Desirable but Optional Features for New Beater: Crystal Scratched to the point of Illegibility Paperclip end link pin Missing Pearl Enough desk diving scratches to appear "satin" finished
