  1. quite a few more flaws than that http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=19243 still.. has a nice solid feel to it and well built...
  2. yea, i noticed this one earlier today.. totally dodgy theres a lot of fakes, and itseems the sellers of them are getting better and better feedback acounts. theres some guy with like 1000 selling a bogus tag rightnow.. told himit was a rep,he said . not i assure you it isnt. lol
  3. loans are not as bad as you think... all interest/payments deferred til you are out of school... I think there are private loans that work the same way for that.... so, you can work 20 hours a week now for low wages or wait til you're out of school, making a lot more... and payit off then, == less hours worked to pay off debt. and given how the USD keeps falling... that 5k a year or whatever.. will be worth less by the time you get out i worked a few jobs on and off in school... mostly it detracted from the experience/available time for learning. and the pay was rubbish. absolute poop. scholarships..or maybe different school selection is in order. usually theres incentive/cheap tuition for in state residents for state schools.. and if you are going out of state apply for residency as soon as you get there
  4. oh.. just FYI, all his prices are 'negotiable' even on his website...
  5. yea, that one looks like the one i have to the letter.. the moonie isnt 'accurate' by any stretch of the imagination, but the one you picked out is probably the 'best' one out there.. couple of collectors carry the same one, but hey, give ET a shot. cant see the link slickdick posted as i dont have an account there but heres the link at RG (probably same review) http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=16362
  6. pics of what you are talking about would help. Ive seen most of the moonie reps out there, but not sure which one the eurotimez one is out of them.. too lazy to go find the listing to help..
  7. hrm.. cost was a bit of an issue for me, so you buy an ETA rollie for 2xx instead of 100 for a newb... and you get a fake eta... and its not about money? it is about deception.. but its also about being sold crap and told its good by the dealers that a forum which was created to stop lies in sales endorses.. lol. oh.. guess that makes it about deception as well.. I just dont like 'surprises' when it comes to these things..
  8. quite a few flaws on dial, but it certainly is a nice rep none the less..
  9. Ummm? Thats a 24mm strap bro. Its actually 23.41mm, a far cry from 20mm. Dunno whats up with it, its on my list of straps to replace with self made. No kids here, went to work, it was fine, came home, exploooooodded
  10. Yea, at least there are always other watches to wear. I just made that damn strap for it like 2 days ago too.. didn't even get to wear it out and about!
  11. when you come home and find this.. sigh..
  12. well, they arent ETAs, I can tell you that. ufanta is kind of a running gag over at RG.. don't let dave123 see this thread! anyway, his stuff is mostly rubbish.. i took the plunge and bought his needle swannie 111, and its fairly ok for the price http://www.repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=13834 therse a review.
  13. gen caseback fits just fine, at least to my version of it (there are a few versions) also therse teh 21J casebacks, not sure if they fit, but i can double check for you tonight
  14. Yup, I have had a serviced one.. and while it hasnt died yet, it still doesnt feel as 'smooth' as the real deal, either winding or running the chrono.. and I would hazard to guess that most people on this forum would *still* tell you not to run the chronos or wind it, etc etc. even after servicing. sorry for the clipped quote, but, servicing still doesn't make the movement as good as swiss. and at movement price + servicing, coming pretty dangerously close to ETA cost anyway.. its a decent movement, but its no ETA @like2swiss - thats wasnt my comment not to run the chronos, I am jsut repeating what I have read about 70 times in the past few months.. what every 'expert' and their mother tells you when anyone brings up the movement. I hear 'The Zigmeister says its amazing' and 'dont run the chronos, or wind it, etc etc etc, else you'll break it' i dont know which is true, tbh, and maybe i've just had bad luck, but 3 out of around 10 in 6 months... thats pretty rotton (true, only one serviced one, but im not about to drop $$ on that on every chrono watch i get, may as well just swap for eta)
  15. I would disagree with that statement.. they still dont feel as 'smooth' as the swiss, and, everywhere I turn on these forums, I still see warnings dont run the chronos dont wind it dont monkey with it dont touch it dont look at it so.. we cant have it both ways.. either its a competitor to the swiss and you can feel free to run the chonos and.. *gasp* use it as intended, or its still an inferior movement, but workable. Ive never had a problem with any of my swiss 7750s, and ive been known to monkeyaround with the chronos just for giggles.. pretty much whenever i was bored.. so.. a LOT. yet, ive still had 3 busted ass 28k 7750s, without using the chronos besides testing if they worked when i got it. (no, no seconds at 6 or other added nasty complications) luck of the draw maybe, but.. cant be saying its as good as swiss when they do break, people do have problems, and still encouraged to not use it as intended. just my $0.02
  16. Agreed... but.. what should the correct response from the collectors be? I just think the whole situation is a bit of a PITA. On the same thread at RG, someone commented something along the lines of 'i dont open it up to check, and if i go to sell it, i also sell it as swiss, regardless of what it really is, it was sold to me as such, so i will pass it on'
  17. some spam bot... a quickgoogle search shows a few thousand results for such a bot/account
  18. No, he isnt. Only modders over there are vac, flav, and the AR guys.. and VDB
  19. hrm.. yea, i am surprised they havnt stepped up and made ebauches that are interchangable with ETA. since its not a full movement, it could still go into 'swiss' watches... and.. right about now, companies would be eating that sh*te up
  20. Righto. I think I'm going to check out the big 3/4 movement factories websites in CN, and see if theres any info about 'new and better lookin' ETA ripoffs. hope google translator can make some sense of em.. BTW, anyone know when the ETA copyrights expired on their movements? Would be *very* interesting if all the dates lined up with the 'shortage' and eta's move to stop making ebauches...
  21. I find it interesting... I'm reasonably positive that the rep factories aren't *making* the movements, low grade or high grade. They are buying CN movements that are already in production and having them engraved/swapping bridges/etc. I'm not disputing that there are many many fake etas around.. just trying to discuss where the heck they are coming from. So, as I said before, the main makers of movements over yonder are DG/Seagull/PTS-Hangzhou and maybe some others. I think these companies are.. well.. at least somewhat legit.. and I find it highly implausible that some basement operation could be putting out movements of higher quality than the companies i just mentioned, which still points to them making them. (we know some are DG and some are seagull, etc already, but I'm goign to say that the 'fakes' have to be c oming from them as well) Patents ran out on many of the ETA movements, so I think legally they are in the clear (at least on some), but you have to wonder.. ok, the rep 'factories' can do the fake eta stamps at same time they engrave rotor, etc, still seems like a lot of effort, as it still would require the movement to be taken apart to get to it... so it would required skilled labor. 2 points: 1) we should be able to keep abreast of what 'good copies' are available by merely checking with the manufacturers of these movements, no? They make movements well beyond to put into reps, and are very public about new movements/updates to movements 2) It is scary how impossible to tell they could make them. Seagull has put out a double tourby, there's no doubt they could put out precision enough 'fakes' (legally) that would be neigh indistinguisable from swiss quality. (i think seagull is at least as advanced as stellita) anyway, i think point one would be interesting to research... these high grade movements have to be coming from *somewhere*.
  22. let me know how that goes, as that would be awesome. for me, that movement is a little beyond my skill to take apart, scares the heck outa me.
  23. Oh and the seagull ST-19 is an awesome movement, just wish the finishing was better. very smooth.
