Hi Guys I'm trying to find a good watch repair place in NYC, or within 10-15 miles of it. I have a '63 Tudor that needs servicing, so I'm trying to find a place that can service vintage ETA movements, and other such things. Is this something that is so "special" that I should be very selective about who does this, or is it really something that isn't that difficult? I called Rolex but they said my watch is too old and wouldn't service it (those punks!) Thank you RH101

Hi guys, Thank you again for your posts. You are such an incredible wealth of information. I have enclosed pictures of the lugs. Unfortunately I did not take these photos myself so I can not comment on the technique used to take them (they are really great quality though!) I believe the jeweler who took the case back off took the photos for the guy I bought this watch from. Here is a summary of the history of the watch as given by the owner: - He bought it in September 1963 at a Rolex AD in Zurich, Switzerland - Had it serviced by Rolex NY in 1980 (thus the markings on the case back) - Boxed the watch in 1985 - I don't seem to have the picture, but close-up on the movement reveals "ETA 2776" He asked about his watch also at some point, and someone commented that this model/year should have a small rose with mercedes hands. Rolex confirmed that they serviced the watch in December 1980. But they will no longer service this model and recommended that I contact the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute to find someone to service it. He tells me that he at no point remembers having the dial and hands changed, and does not remember at any time bringing it to an AD and them returning it with a different dial/hands. But he also tells me that it's been over a period of 44-45 years, so it's totally possible he doesn't remember it. (I can't even remember what in which US state I bought my 4 year old Seiko.) The owner also is not a big watch nut and it seems entirely possible that it was replaced at some point and maybe it didn't make a big impression on him. According to him, the only thing on the watch that he knows for sure has been replaced are the compressible pins that hold the bracelet to the case, which were replaced when the jeweler took the above photos because they were frozen after 44-45 years. I was wondering what are the possibilities for having the incorrect dial / hands if this watch is in fact unmodified since the purchase from an AD in '63. I really have faith in the previous owner. He even drew up a signed agreement that gives me a few weeks with the watch and if I find that it's horrible or anything like that, he will take it back and give a full refund. Thank you again RH101

Question: The faded yellow hands / dial. If I had everything re-lumed, would that kinda fix the faded colors? Or what? My plan is to replace the crystal, and replace the bezel.

I actually just bought that one! It's sitting on the counter in my kitchen. It's gorgeous. The movement hasn't been serviced in a long time though, so I need to get that done then I can start wearing it on a daily basis. Just out of curiosity, what do you think it would sell for (I think I got really lucky)?

Man... This whole search is like beating my head on a wall. It pretty much seems to get a snowflake Tudor sub you kinda have to buy an older one and then fix it up, which will add like another $300-500 to the cost of one. I have a great vintage military rolex bond sub from UncleJay. I was thinking of just putting these hands on it (replacing the mercedes hands) That would be similar, and would only cost $65 + shipping instead of getting a whole new damn watch And it's still ETA powered. What do you guys think?

Hey! Great time pieces! Do you know the diameters of the large and small ones you have? Just so I don't accidently purchase a smaller one (I'd be so [censored]!) I'm trying to decide if it's worth buying an original and getting something kinda beat up, or paying just a little less and getting a rep that is in perfect condition. Do you know what Rolex would charge for a service on a Tudor? Also, if I bought a new set of hands or something for a gen, would a Rolex shop put them in for me? Or would it be much cheaper/better to get it done at an independent watch repair guy? (by the way I went to Tudor's website, they have some pretty good kinda funky baroque sounding music, I like )

Dear Friends, I've been doing a lot of searching lately (this site, Google, Ebay, and using Google's spiders of this site, etc) and I've been relatively unsuccessful in finding a Tudor Submariner w/ snowflake hands replica. I read the outstanding ByTor review of the $400 MBW Tudor Sub, but I can't seem to find where to buy that replica. Also it seemed as though he thought it was insane (back in '06) to pay $400 for a Tudor replica, because the originals were marginally affordable. Also I saw this link: http://www.jewelryandwatch.com/en-us/dept_80.html which sells them either assembled or the pieces to them, and I saw a link to classicwatchparts which sells a lot of nice Tudor parts. So, I guess my questions are: 1. Do we have any trusted vendors that sell Tudor reps? And if so, may you please give their link? 2. Do you know of a good site to try to buy genuine Tudors? 3. It seems sometimes the watches have the Sub style hands instead of the Snowflake hands. Is replacing the hands as easy as buying them off of classicwatchparts and having a watchsmith replace them? 4.
