Has Anyone Tried To Artificially Fade A Dial?
FxrAndy replied to rmcsherry's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
I did it by accident while trying to remove glue residue on a marina militare dial using clinique clarifying lotion, it removed the varnish from the dial face leaving a dull matt finish that looked a bit older than before, and a bit greyer, it was not removing the glue fast enough so i tried nail varnish romover and found that a bit to harsh and oops!, if i ahd had more patience it would have looked better. -
@ Johnboy777 was it this one you were looking at Davidsen molnija 3646 ??

I think i must have had an old one then as there was no protection on it, i replaced it with a vintage movement from a pocket watch, £10 from ebay, the seller stated that it had been serviced and timed, and it works a treat, it has the old style screwed balence that looks better in a vintage style watch but i have not transfered the bridges over as i dont want to break it. I think it realy is a good copy of the old Cortebert just a few curves wrong but looks good in my eyes.

@ PugwashVery true we also have to think that we have been asking for different models, and if they have been listening to us look at what we have on sale now, it was not long ago we asked for the chronomat and look what we have, I asked about the Railmaster XXL and we have it (just a shame about the bridges) only thing putting me off. So we asked for variation and we are getting it.

I have just read the attached link sent in answer to your question, the one point it noted was the lack of any shock protection on the 3406 movement that is found in the watches you are talking about. I have one of these pans with the russian movement, i dropped it and it broke, but a new movement was easy to find and to replace. The quality of the bridges feels very good and the engraving makes it look authentic (although a little to clean) I have seen these movments with stick on plates that dont look as good. If you are thinking of getting one please do as long as you dont drop it on to a tiled floor from 6 foot away it should be fine. Other people have said they arive dirty or not oiled but so do many other movements, just get it serviced and cleaned. I hope this helps, enjoy that vintage pan i know i do.

Can anyone tell me if this XXL has a screw down crown as joshes site lists it as Material : 1 piece forged case construction, solid 316 stainless steel Back : Display Caseback with detailed engraving on case rim. Crown : One-piece Pull out crown with o ring Crystal: Synthetic Crystal front and back Water-resistant I am so tempted but would like to know about the crown, i am sure the gen has screw down, Am i right TTK?

Looking For The Old Style Omega Seamaster Bond Watch
FxrAndy replied to ajoesmith's topic in The Omega Area
Just like the Aqua Terra bands i have the pins and sleave is a great method, but will only work on the right strap with the right pins and sleaves other wise it would be to loose. They provide great mobility and lots of strenth. -
Thank you for the thought. Just a thought for all this sat at 11am in UK there will be a 2 min silence for all soldiers and there will be services of rememberance all over on sunday.

Need Expert Opinion On These Rolex Crowns...very Unusual
FxrAndy replied to RWG Technical's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
A point i would like to add (as unqualified in the presant company i am) stainless steel is less magnetic than non stainless, (depends on the grade of stainless) is the foil is non magnetic than the crown underneath then it would seem the factory was wrapping cheeper crowns with good stainless, lets not forget that this was the time that rolex was still making folded link bracelets, and who would buy a watch with a folded link bracelets today! i would like to know the results of this experiment. It could be a white gold wrap ?????? LOL -
I would say this is a bad idea, i aways wind forward, i know it is a pain with the date having to wind a month minus a day forward and wind it on to get the date change and time right but that would be a good cause to a GMT so that you ncan indipendantly set the gmt hand to where you are and leave the main hands on your home time.

OK just a thought

Can any of the dealers shed any light on this subject at all???
-
I dont know, just for instance it is based on a 7750 or what ever the new movement is called, it is only a center seconds and a power reserve modual, they work on some of the pams dont they with 7750 based works???
-
Sorry not saying they should rep the iwc movement, just mod another. I am no expert but i think a 7750 would be the best start point.
-
On TRC it did say working PR, from and enginering point of view any thing is possible, but will it work for long we know the swiss can do it so why cant the chinese?
-
What about a 7750 asia is that not large enough and alow the seconds at 9 (might need spacing out a touch) and a PR modual, on trc the person who was supplying the info spoke about a PR of 4 days is this possible??
-
There is a similar thread on TRC but nothing new since sept 9, i would love to see this one out before xmas
-
Well that saves someone geting scammed, i just wish i could contact the highest bidder and show him where he could get the same for $139, oh well
-
I would if i could get it off my wrist, but it is like a magnet, have had it on for a month away, come home swap watches and a day later i look down and it is back on there. It realy is that good, got it from josh if you are interested. how ever the best phot i could find was on trustys site, take you pick, have a look at the middle photo close up of the works, it realy is fantastic.trustys railmaster PS sorry for hijacking the thread.
-
I just wish that i had the photo skills of Pug or TTK so i could show you the works in my railmaster, full perlage fantastily clean, keeps almost perfect time (-1 sec per day now) nickle plated. I doupt that is was shipped to Shitinerand for finishing and then back to china to be installed. I aslo doupt that the factorys buy from otto frie to install a better looking movement. I realy belive that all of these are made in china and am happy with that, and even happier when people talk about there gen breitling or tag being better because it has a swiss works! made in china, they realy refuse to belive that when i tell them. The same realy about porche 4x4 owners with there German car (made in the Chech republic) So lets raise a glass to the swinese or chiss watch factorys who make us happy. Andy

A point in note with the seagull 2892 copy being sold in watches as an ETA2892, nothing wrong with the movement (pictures earlyer in theis thread) i have one reliable keeps good time but it is not an ETA, it took a bit of education on my part before i realised this. When i see these works being described as ETA it is annoying i would much rather see it described at a seagull even at the same price, it is a great movement!

I have tried to contact the highest bidder but ebay blocks messages now oh well
