Thanks Rolex001. I also found this from www.vintagesubmariner.com "The reference 16800 was introduced in 1977-78. The 16800 introduced caliber 3135 which introduced the quick-set date and a sapphire crystal. Also, the 16800 was now rated from 660 feet to 1000 feet. Sometime around 1985 or 86, white gold surrounds were added to the luminous hour markers. Toward the end of the production run of the 16800s, for only about nine months, Rolex produced a reference 168000 in which the quality of the stainless steel was upgraded from grade 316 to grade 904."

Do the vintage rep subs have the same issues as the modern subs? I mean is the crown too low and the other dimensions off? I just wondered how they compared in accuracy? Thanks for answering this noob question. Also, does anyone sell a decent vintage rep with a cheap movement?
-
Stephane I really liked the history that you put in this post. Are the older rolex watches made of 316 steel? I just assumed they all used 904.

Other choices would be custom pieces with gen parts . It depends on if you are looking for best price, best look out of the box, best look with mods........ Oh and how much you want to spend. The price points seem to be $100, $230, $275, $360 and more for something with gen parts. Read all you can here and make the best choice for you. There is a reason people pay more...
unfortunately Porsche356a's Rolex have been sold :-( !Whats your opinion about my choice in my first port ?

Is it good ? near genuine ?
Thanks

Will a genuine insert fit in the bezel that comes on it?
Until a 2892 powered sub comes out I think we cannot call it 1:1 case. Also WM9 sub needs some reworking to fit a genuine complete bezel properly, otherwise it won't turn.
I've not tried to fit a genuine bezel on a new MBW/MBW yet.
BTW I do agree with alligoat/Tribal/Stephane, MBW/WM9 are the best choice and definitely worth a genuine bezel insert
-
I thought you might say that. I wonder if that means the rep insert is out of spec or something else is off? Is this something that could be adjusted? I do not know how the bezel mechanism works.
-
Tribal is the insert slightly recessed as it should be? I had a hard time knowing for sure on the pics. Thanks!!!
Thanks for the update, as long as it once had SEL, then I am goodWhat serial is being engraved on these anyway, if at all?
-
Thanks for all of the information. So far I saw a gen insert on ebay for $149. I will keep looking. First I need a case that is 1:1
As usual, Alligoat and Tribal sum it up.I would simply state, and of course this is my humble opinion:
No rep of a modern Sub (MBK/WM9/BKLM/Noob/Euro/or whatever) should be worn without a gen insert / pearl.
It might be tricky to fit sometimes, but, what a wonderfull difference
Ok Gpl, now you have all the information you can dream of

Thanks Alligoat. I just wondered if there is a real difference in appearance. The only option I have seen so far is $149 on ebay for a gen insert. As for the watch material pearl.... Do I need to get the insert there and then take the pearl out of it? Thanks again
If you get a genuine insert- say you find one on ebay for $75 or maybe more- then the only challenge is to install it in your sub w/o tearing it up.Or you can get the watchmaterial pearl and the jewelryoutlet insert and install the pearl in the insert w/o tearing them up and then install them in your sub, again, w/o tearing them up.
The watchmaterial pearl isn't bad, but if you have a gen insert, you are always golden.

How much of a difference is there between a gen insert for a 16610 and an after market insert? I have seen conflicting suggestions on where to get the best insert/pearl. It appears that one place is the best place for the insert and one place is the best place for the pearl. Any suggestions?

There is no best. They are all different. Stainless in my opinion is better because there is nothing to wear off. The The noobmariner is the best in price. The Euromariner has a better rehault and takes gen parts. It depends on what you want and how much you want to spend. The one that meets your needs of accuracy and price is the best model for you.

Thanks Stephane for the information. I had searched the forums but really did not see any clear information.

Do all gen rolex subs come with lugholes? If not then why do so many people want the lugholes. Also what is the crown position that is different on a gen. Thanks for answering these noob questions.
-
Is it possible to purchase a case that uses gen parts and then use the parts from a noob watch? I did not know if there is a source for this type of case.
-
What would be the choice of bezel inserts for this watch? The same as aways but with the possibility that a gen could be used? By-Tor or others what do you think of the CGs? I am not real knowledgeable in that area. How hard is it to get gen parts? Sorry for all of the noob questions. Thanks for the review!
-
Forgive my noobness.... Does the WM9 take gen parts? Does anyone sell WM9 cases? Thanks!!!

How do you adjust time on a numbmariner that is losing two minutes a day? I figure there is something to adjust inside? How much adjustment is probably needed?
-
Thanks for the information

Thanks Shundi for your reply. I found how to remove the current crown but did not find any definitive answers for places to buy a more accurate crown that would definitely fit. I will read some more posts

What is the best way to replace a crown on a noobmariner with an asian movement? Can a genuine crown be used or is there a better alternative to the one that comes on the noobmariner which is too large? How hard is this job to do?
My sub Bezel doesn't click anymore... Need Help
in The Rolex Area
