  1. Nor sure how long ago this was written but he obviously hasn't seen any of TC's watches yet! Being in retail I'm constantly in contact with members of the general public, if a guy walks into my shop (I sell vintage watches as well as menswear)  then 9 times out of 10 i can tell if he's got a Gen or a Rep on his wrist, purely by his body language.

Normally it if i give his wrist a quick glance without realising he's doing it, if his initial reaction is to put his wrist behind his back then he's sporting rep. They normally won't make eye contact either ;)

Funnily enough i had a customer in the other day sporting his new Yachtmaster 2 which is 100% Gen and i was amazed at the amount of Rotor noise it gave off. Not sure if its because it has a chrono function that makes it noisier than a standard 3135 movement?

  2. I could do with some advise from the newer model Rolex experts on the forum about this piece as I'm more of a Vintage Man. This was purchased back in 2008 from Natalie watches. At the time it was very much at the top of the tree in terms of reps, And I'm sure if memory serves me right it was an eye watering £500.00!! oh how we've all learned over the years :fool:

My question is how good is the case set in terms of closeness to gen? Is it worth considering for a Build?

It has a nice 93250 on it but with the usual give away rounded '3's. The movement appears to be a swiss 2836-1 and the dials a glossy Maxi dial. Any idea about what the parts are worth? based on the fact that the keyless works need re setting apart from that it seems to be running fine

    Appreciate feedback chaps

  3. I'm by no means a movement expert but yes there was a Chrono module for the 2892. AFAIK it was just that, a module that was added on top of an existing 2892 base movement.

As far as the rotor, don't think they're compatible tried looking at part numbers to prove my point but got crossed eyed.... :bangin: maybe someone with more authority can come along with the part numbers for you.

    Appreciate the imput my man

  4. Just been asked for a break down in terms of cost, Not a cheap build but then its certainly not anything like the required $16,000 for the cost of a Gen, Then again are you ever 100% sure its the real deal? Lots of Frankens out there

Gen 1575 non hacking movement $2000.00 - full service $200.00

    ingod mid case/case back $350

    Mq dial $350.00

    CWP hand set $100.00

    Phong bezel $250.00

    Gen tube and crown $150.00

  6. hello all

the time has come for me to consider a big crown build :D

dont get too excited, i want this to be a budget build.

from what ive read there are 3 or so options for the budget conscious

    1. silix case / rafflestime

    2. tiger concept case

    3. helenarou

the silix case, i believe does not use a retaining ring so a crystal would sit to high and must be glued in.

the tiger case seems to have an incorrect dial opening and is not compatible with the variety of rep dials available, the rest seems decent

the helenarou is a tad more expensive and the low crown position is not something i like, but the brass bezel ring is nice.

am i correct in choosing a tiger concept case for this build?

i have heard it can fit a clarks T19, it would need lug holes drilled and for a rep dial to fit would need some rehaut milling. does anyone know the if the tube would need modding to fit a rep 8mm brevet crown?

so far my shopping list looks like this. i dont know exactly how compatible each part is with this case

    Tiger case

    clarks t19

    helenarou dial

    helenarou hands OR tiger hands

    eta 2472 or DG2813 pearl

    athiya 8mm crown

    2mm bars

NATO strap OR silix rivet stretch bracelet

insert??? not sure what options exist here, might just keep the factory one.

what would you guys use in your budget big crown builds and why?

    any and all ideas appreciated

    thanks!

Talk to Big Daz, he's now back from his travels and building them again at a very reasonable price without the hassle of doing it yourself. Have a look at the pair of 6538 twins he did for me and Nanuq a while back. I personally think he's the Best in terms of aging and vintage luming on these watches. Akira is also fantastic if you wanted a tropic dial doing.

    Cheers DH
