  1. Denimhead, that is fantastic! More details on the build? I love the bezel, straight seconds, small crown, date window bevel, and flat 3's. Aged well without being over done.

    Many Thanks Rower,

    Specs are -

Modded ingod44 midcase and case back

    Phong bezel mk2

    Mq rail dial

    CWP hand set

Gen 1575 with silver date wheel

    Modded T116 cyclops removed tolook

  2. Hey M! Let's see that 1655! I'm putting the finishing touches (yeah right) on my Big Gonzo. Hopefully it's back from the Southern Spa in a month or so.

Will do, its at my watchmakers at the moment and he's promising to have it done by Thursday, famous last words :bangin:

  3. Hey M, it's amazing just how small this world is, eh??    ;)

Hi B, belated HNY to you mate. This was the disaster zone that i purchased for my 6538 Franken from a 'renowned' seller over on VRF. Lesson learned.

1655 Franken almost there, what you up to on the watch front mate?

    Cheers M

  4. Looks amazing! Phong still around?

Yep, still in business. Lots of QC pictures required as his parts vary massively. This is actually an ingod case that I've modded. A third of the price and as nice as I've had from Phong before. Only issue is incorrect 'E's (equal lengths) on the engravings but i think the percentage of people who'd pick up on it is pretty minor.

    Cheers DH

  5. Well after cutting my teeth on a few 2846/GMT conversion builds i decided to treat myself this Christmas to a few choice parts, not sure about you but at my age all i get it socks and a Terry's chocolate orange.

Anyone who knows me knows that the 1655 is my favourite of all of the Vintage Rolex sports models. The keen eyed amongst you will also notice that the straight hand is in fact too early for the MK3 Rail dial but as the case is dated too 1971 and the movement is non hacking i guess  that the previous owner must have had the dial changed around the mid seventies maybe due to water damage ;)

You also may notice that the plexi hasn't got a cyclops, Rolex produced a non cyclops Plexi (T38) as an option for the 1665 and the 1675 models but it didn't prove too be popular at the time, so in typical Vintage Rolex fashion they now fetch up towards the $400.00 mark.

I couldn't justify that so after some consultancy with 'Bonesy' he eventually came up with a solution involving a Dremel and fine wet and dry paper.

Just waiting for one of Mr Phongs bezels and its a done deal.

    Cheers DH

  6. Rails, I don't know your size but this is the coat for you. It's crazy warm, waterproof/breathable and bombproof. It's my go to coat for winter camping at ridiculous temps and it's on sale.

    Move fast.

  7. Looks terrific.

Why is there a "?" on the gen dial?

When i originally bought the dial it was clear from the stampings on the back that the dial was Genuine Rolex, however I was unsure if it started out life as a 1655. Or possibly a re-finished one. Using my 1655 obsessive eyes, the shape and size of the frog foot coronet is correct for a mk2  T SWISS T dial and the lume looks original and un-touched.

  8. For the true Gentlemen who requires both style and practicality. Hand made in the Loake factory in Northampton over an 8 week period, with layers of protective wax applied for waterproofing. Fully leather lined for non smelly feet and a fully welted Goodyear rubber sole. Yes I'm afraid they are £200.00 however you have them for life

  9. OK thanks for that:)

But how will the date be centered/aligned if You have an eta movement in it?

Personally I'd just buy the ingod44 Rail 1665 dial. Best value for money after market dial out there. Unless your in the company of a Vintage Rolex expert who's really going to know, And if you had it nicely re-lumed then it would be an even harder call
