  1. Good Morning Fraggle,

I think its fair to say that you would be a very valued UK source for watch servicing etc. As kernow states Micky is our Englishman in Finland so another EU based set of hands would be great. I'm sure he'd be happy to provide some guide line in terms of prices etc. Perhaps avoid the 7750 secs at 6 movements!!:fool:

  2. Hi Rick

Yes the newer cartel case, CG's squared off on the inside and softened on the outer edges. Apart from that lug holes drilled 1.3mm, aging polishing aging polishing.......Cartel bezel slightly lowered with gen insert which snapped straight in. I've found that if you make the tension spring as flat as possible then it holds it firm, do not bend it otherwise there isn't enough edge to catch the bezel firm. You could always buy a proper tension spring and just lower the bezels height by sanding it down.

  3. So with a beer in hand, last night i decided to see if i could make the 2813 movement in my 5513 a bit quieter. Most of you know that its quite a noisy movement with the bi directional whirring rotor.

So caseback off, then i un screw the rotor and place it on the table. Based on what i've read Applying a very small quantity of silicon grease to the bearings allows smother motion and in theory makes it a bit quiter. I then reach for the beer and the rotor flies onto the kitchen floor proceeding to fall apart!!

I then spend a few minutes flicking the main part onto the tiled floor musing over the pinging sound, and i had a thought:g:perhaps this is the noisy part that resonates the most.

What if i made my own micro rotor a la Universal Geneve, so i re screwed the central part of the rotor to the movement and left off the bit in the picture.

Well all i can say is that i now have a near silent movement, much the same as a gen 1530, which has run for 12 hours so far and kept great time.

Now I'm not suggesting for a minute that you all start throwing your rotors on the floor, but if it has no ill effect on my watch over the next few days then perhaps this could be a great mod for any 2813 owners who want to silence the bugger.

    Cheers DH

Most cases with spring wire bezels will not accept an oem spec crystal/bezel set and here's why:

In order to fit a genspec outer bezel to a case, the case neck will have to be oem spec or machined to oem spec (29.5mm), and a genspec crystal and gasket need to be fitted along with a complete oem spec bezel set...retainer bezel, rotating bezel, insert, click spring etc. Hard to do (if it needs to be machined) and expen$ive.

There is usually a groove in the case neck for the spring wire on cases with crystal gaskets mounted inside the case neck and if the groove is not machined away on the way to 29.5mm, it might cause trouble with leaks etc. On cases with an oem type crystal/gasket combo (oem spec or not), you will still need to end up with a 29.5mm case neck one way or another to use oem spec inner and outer bezels. If the case neck has to be machined quite a bit...it has to be thick enough to support the gasket/crystal/bezel assembly and not be too tall or short. Taking all this into consideration, there may be too many problems to solve.

Two good things about spring wire bezels are they do not get knocked off easily or develop tight spots from getting knocked around. The spring wire method is usually a more rugged method of securing a rotating bezel and since they have more space between the id of the rotating bezel and od of the retainer bezel,  knocks usually will not distort the bezel enough to cause tight spots when turning it.

As always Mate, A wealth of experience. Greatly appreciated

Just a little modding?...huh...case shape is wrong, cg shape is wrong, cb is wrong, lug holes have to be redrilled...plus the aging...and I bet the crown size is wrong too and according to the pics I'd say the DW is also wrong...

I mean...yes...129$ is a good price but one has to spend pretty much time and/or money to get it at least acceptable (in my eyes).

But the good point is it doesn't say "date" on the dial :D

Got to Agree I'm afraid. I have been talking to the Cartel boys to see if they can finally offer a 1675/1655 that resembles the gen. You can use the existing cartel 1655 case but you will need to remove a lot of metal to get the CG's remotely close to the gen.

So I guess, besides just waiting a while, whats the next best/worst option? I'm looking to do this within the next few weeks hopefully. The case doesn't have to be perfect, just enough to not stand out too much...

If your desperate to make a start, buy the cartel 1655 then swap the bezel for a wso one. Swap the dial out for a yuki or gen,Drill lug holes, perhaps swap plexiglass for gen spec T116. Then remove the 24 hr hand adjustable function so it acts as per gen 1575 movement. You could always do a hybrid 1655-1675 check out my posts regarding this.

    Hope that helps
