  1. OK, so teach us that can't see the issues. What are they that make you think its a rep?

    Dave...

    Hi Dave

    Here you go mate

    1. the outer markers on all gen dials are printed very close to the outer edge, the outer markers always sit flush to the rehaut, as you can see this isn't the case on this awful franken

    2. the coronet shape isn't correct for any of the 3 versions of the early T SWISS T dials that stern produced

    3. The orange 24hr hand is totally incorrect in terms of length and profile, not long enough, too fat and no taper down to the arrow head

    4. The cg's aren't 'long or square' enough and are incorrect in terms of profile, have a look at any of the Gen 1675 or 1655 and you'll see what i mean.

    5. The CG's are also very thick, again compared to all gen 1655 and 1675 which have an up turned thin side profile

    6. Look at the inners of the CG's, they should have a clean steep angle ending in a nice right angle. not the stepped effect this has

    7. the engravings are incorrect in terms of font and numeral style for any early 1970's rolex

    8. No chafer on the outer edges of the case, which happens to look brand new

    Hope that helps

  2. Here's the guys response, terrifying!!!!

    ‎Hi Mark
Thanks for your feedback reg the watch.

This is my first 1655 and the infirmities you seek to show donot seem valid in light of the fact‎ that a famous Auction house has valued it and agreed to take it in their auction. I fully appreciate your right to criticise but maybe the photos didnt come out well or from some angle. If you want some photos from other angle, I would certainly mail them to you for your perusal in the message. To repeat, a famous auctioneer has seen, valued and agreed to take it in their auction where it will in all probability go. And yes, NOTHING HERE IS AFTERMARKET, ALL IS ORIGINAL save for the bracelet. Because of the ethical consideration, I am not sending you a copy my private mail conversation with the auction house.

So is my other very rare gold rolex which may be one of the very few surviving model of semi hermetic Rolex with FB case. I shall await your constructive criticism of that as well, should time and inclination permit.

Once again reiterating that this is a rare all original untouched and virginal 1655 ‎which mostly sat in the safe, I await your critique of the other rolex.

And as Voltaire said, " I might disagree with you but I will defend to death your right to say it."

    Regards
    Mitra
PS: You may be from UK,if you are listed on co.uk domain. There is a Parsi community in India who are the richest and the best connoisseurs of horological items. ‎ For examples there are more McCabe triple fusee with Parsis in India than in entire England. This is a dwindling community who donot have kids. Tatas are one example. I always buy my watches and clocks from aged Parsis. Still negotiating for Rolex and Patek Moonphase with one but the price asked is humongous. Anyway, this was just as an aside. But I do look forward to learning with/from you.
  3. Instead of removing the quick set date parts, maybe just remove the humps on the set bridge for the qs position.

That way you will still have the qs function but no one but you will know the watch has it.

This saves wearing the canon pinion out.

Thanks for that advise mate, I think sadly this isn't going to be a keeper due to my looming solicitor's costs due to my divorce but worth a thought for the new owner

    Cheers DH

  4. Stunning piece. What are your specs brother?

Spider web Aged and re- coloured plastic Insert

    very cool

    what case?

Hi mate, Puretime exclusive 6542 with Phong complete bezel set

  5. No the base watch is one that Angus developed exclusively for Puretime. Just added the Phong Gen spec bezel as it's always the biggest give away for me on the Vintage Non crown guard models. The GS plexi also adds that special touch for me in terms of profile. Dial and hands re-lumed bu Daz, Rafflestime 24hr small hand

I'm really fortunate to have a local old school clock and watch guy here in Sheffield who did the 2846 conversion and mods for me. He takes an age to do the work but the movements are always perfectly serviced.

  6. Nice 6542!

What's the crown, case, dial from all stock cartel?

  7. My good mate Big Daz situated over the Irish Sea has just fired me over a picture of my completed 6542. I'll post some daylight shots on Thursday when it arrives.

Nice 2846 - GMT conversion with non hacking, non adjustable GMT function and non quickset date as per the Gen 1036 movement. Phongs chrome plated bezel and a nice Vintage GS Nos Plexi Crystal. Case has been aged, lug holes drilled and I've added a hint of chamfer to the outer edges of the case. Big Daz puffy re-lumed dial, and hands

    Hope you like it Gents

  8. If you can track down of of the 2010 Rolefinder MBW 15202 you have a very nice closed back 39mm jumbo. It's actually a rep of  the rare 1990's 15002 which was offered towards the end of its production with the 15202 style dial. Here's a link to the rare Gen. I have one on the way, I'm going to recess the bezel screws a bit and lume the gap in between the A and P of the logo then it'll be a very good rep of the 15002.

Amazed considering the asking price that the vendor hasn't even bothered having the screws lined up properly, I guess the softness of the white gold screws has proved long term to be an issue on these older models. Might not bother modding my screws on an inbound Rolexfinder WBW looking at this!

  10. Rolexfinder used to replace the original screws with polished SS ones, so I guess they can be removed...You can easily damage them so be careful...

That's a nice catch, I've got a black dial one, and love it. I think it is a bit more thick than the gen, and has got a closed caseback but definitely a quality rep...

Hi Prof, yep I've been after one for a while and its a black dialed one too. I'm going to re-lume it using a creamier colour including the gap in the AP logo. Having looked at the history of the Royal Oak if you somehow replaced the numbers on the dial for printed stick markers it would end up being  a close rep to a series C 5402.

  11. Its certainly an idea B, I'm going to wait to see how the complete build ends up looking first. Once the dial and hands go in it may add enough 'age' to the build to pull off the whitey insert. Daz has kindly agreed to put it together for me so hopefully we'll end up with a peach.

Do i detect an Alaskan cousin being mulled over in your head B  ;) Its the silix 6538's all over again mate

    Has the tan faded yet?

    Cheers M
