  1. Welcome brucer, Yes, those are the basics elements of what we try to have here in our little home. SEARCH, and (hopefully) your questions will be answered. And if not, then ask, as we have a wonderful cross section of WIS in our membership, who hopefully can find a solution to most problems. Enjoy your stay. Offshore
  2. David, Think you will find, that whatever you may receive, (if anything), is an extremely poor facsimile of a Freak! I actually had a look at that site recently, and they certainly won't see my $$. You need to understand, that the movement in this watch is just plain "different". It won't be copied, so anything else will be glaringly obvious. There are quite a few "Freak" fans around here, so if anything ever did surface, I'm sure we will be the 1st to know. Don't hold your breath. Offshore
  3. Don't bother with the magnet style demagnitisers, where you pass the screwdriver or other item through a hole. They just don't have sufficient power to do the job well. I use an Etic demag, which I got almost brand new from ebay for A$40. It has, like all the other Etic tools I have acquired, proven to be a true workhorse. There are many different demags available, and you can even build your own. As long as they are mains powered, and reliable, you can't go too far wrong. Here are the Etic and an Indian one, avail @ PMWF http://www.pmwf.com/Watches/WATCHSALES04/W...rSalesTable.htm They are also handy for freeing up the drive train on quartz watches. Offshore
  4. I had mentioned elsewhere, about attempting to source a replacement crown, for a Gerald Genta, which I have on my bench. As vinegar has now dissolved the sheared stem in the original crown, I no longer have need of a replacement. However tonite I received a reply to my inquiry to supply a crown. The GG agents for this area, are "Hourglass" in Singapore. They just advised me, that they don't supply replacement parts, and would need to see the watch to quote. So I am asked to ship it to Singapore, and the cost to quote is U$180! Heavens knows what the cost for a replacement crown would have been, and I can only wonder at what their labour bill would have run to! I will fit the reclaimed crown to a new stem, and charge my client A$50! If this watch, had gone through the normal channels, I can see that the repair would not have been less than U$500 ( maybe significantly more!) As we all know, an agency for a top end brand, is truly a licence to print money! Offshore
  5. Search and ye shall find! I remembered a discussion on removing stems from crowns. In the last week I have run into 2 of them. A Gerald Genta, running a 7750, and a Rotary Revelation, (Reverso) with a Ronda 785 movement. The Genta has a most unusual (some may say "bling") crown. I tried to source another, but couldn't get any answers. So decided to try this vinegar job, to remove the sheared stems. Bingo....5 days in white vinegar, and the stems are basically gone. I will let them sit another couple, before cleaning up the crown threads. Now...if anyone can tell me where I can source a split stem for a Ronda 785, ( even the outer end will do) both jobs can be finished. This place is just a wealth of information. Offshore
  6. More OT! SA....8-156.... follow on coming! Debutant/North got +100, and a wicket. O/S
  7. @JTB, Never dropped one in short in my life! Always on a good length, just that they turned at right angles Gotta throw 'em up and take the occasional pounding. (Ask Harris in SA yesterday- 26 in 6 balls- that's too full a length!) So how're the Poms going to go? New coach, new skipper, but playing a team of noobs! I reckon it will go to the wire! (For those out there wondering what this is all about, my colleague and I have now commenced a discussion on the gentlemans' game of cricket) O/S
  8. Ohh, JTB and Dems did a wonderful job on that, a page or so back, , however I'm more than happy to let it run it's own race whilst civility riles rules May draw some more entrants for "quotable quotes." O/S
  9. Omni, I was misunderstood in my post, or maybe it was too obtuse! When Dems adopted Rya's avatar, I always then had to think twice about who I was actually hearing! So my immediate reaction on seeing that av is "that's Rya" I well recognise Ry's sexuality. Funny how we use avatars to recognise various posters. And how they grow on us. O/S
  10. Haahaahaa, GGG indeed. Sort of like an adults night club , just one of the many benefits of plat membership. Then there's the bar, casino, smoking room, sauna, whirlpool, gym....even a humidor store! Could go on for ages about all the good stuff our plat people get, but thats really just for the members to find out themselves. Hope to see you and a few more "in the club" soon. O/S
  11. Dems, your wish is our command! Do you like- or is this a little more of you after a shot or two! Actually thought the 2nd bore a stunning resemblance to Omni! Offshore
  12. That's not a girl...thats Rya (You had to be there!)
  13. @Omni, Persceptive my friend! I took the time to read the sermon and biblical quotes. They were all around wealth retention, and creation. (Or could be read that way!) So the price of bullion in Asia is on the escalation again? Must have a look , ....time to buy, or missed the boat? @phaedo Offshore
  14. Thank you gentlemen! So I put the bezel ring in the sun here today, (about 30-33C room temp- maybe ?40C in the sun) and then placed the insert on and put it in my press. Voila, in it went! So the inside circumference, certainly increased, as did the outside. It had been previously difficult to repress on the crystal/case as well.....another sunbathe, and on it went. (Bigger inside circumference again!) Ahhh the joys of watch repair.....and the things we learn on the way. Offshore.
  15. Whilst this is watch related, it is more about life than watches. So OT it is. Today received from a Phillipines supplier, some pushers, a bezel insert, and a crystal for a couple of Seikos I am doing up. On opening the package, I discovered, in it's own seperate little baggy, a printed mini sermon and bible quotes. Not being all that religious, (I'm probably closer to an agnostic), I was however most taken at the depth true believers will go to try to pass on the word! Maybe as I now have spent quite some $$ with him, him sees me as someone worth "bringing to the flock"? Do I expect a request for a donation to the cause in the future? Would be interested in others views on this one. This is posted with the intent of gaining others experiences in like happenings, it is NOT an invitation to start a religious debate or a flame war, so please respect the rules of the forum, and keep things civil. Thanks Offshore
  16. First to admit to paying little attention during my physics classes all those years ago! So can some one tell me, if I apply heat to a bezel ring ( I am trying to install a new bezel insert on a 6138-0040 Seiko) will the expansion with heat, make the inner circumference, greater or less? Whilst I understand that the outer would increase, what takes place on an inner circumference? The new bezel insert, has a lip which needs to seat under a corresponding lip in the ring, and it is just a "poofteenth" away from seating, but no amount of press seems to want to allow it to seat. I know I could sand a little off the insert, and glue it, but would like to be as "original" as is possible. The old bezel ring appears good as far as being true in round, and I have cleaned back some furry edges which may be preventing the insert going in, but it just won't seat. Physics majors required here please! Offshore
  17. Lovely freddy! Just plain lovely. "luv your work" Offshore
  18. Some of the more notable one liners here, come up in our admin area. Most are unpublishable! We also operate on what happens in admin, stays in admin. Recently however, we were debating various forms of admonishment for recalcitrant members, and JTB offered- Thought this was worth an entry in quotable quotes! (And to show that we in admin take our duties most seriously........ Behave everyone, or else!) Offshore
  19. Sometimes these things are also glued in, with a UV set glue! Normally seen as a shortcut, but they are coming out of China aren't they? Best to let the experts sort it, and make sure you have both WP test results, and a record that a WP test was done. O/S
  20. Sounds likely! Either/either or both. Maybe it needs to go back to your service guy for a pressure test, then he can sort out what it needs. Typically these have a nylon insert, which can also get damaged when the crystal is fitted, so it may be there, but with a split or nick. Worth having a close inspection, and see if you can spot anything (mostly these seals are white nylon/plastic, but not always) See if the crystal appears to be bedding on a white area, or if it is a press fit, direct onto the case. Offshore
  21. And I also believe that if you check his membership status, he doesn't exist, so little chance to PM him! Maybe Skype or email may get a response....if you are a buyer! Offshore
  22. Great job Trailboss. I'm sure all the members here at RWG, join me in thanking you and onzenuub, for your tireless efforts in this raffle. The replica community as a whole should be extremely proud of their combined contributions, which will only help to swell the coffers, with desperately needed funds, for the victims of this tragic event. Thanks Col. Offshore
  23. Had seen them at Offrei as well, however who would have the gall to ask Bob Frei about a cannon pinion height? I am a bit intrigued by this CP height thing, as I can find little reference to different versions. Offshore
  24. Jules Borel has 'em listed @ $15.55. You would need to ask about the cannon pinion height? Offshore
