  1. Hey Welcome to the gang. From Cobble Hill, via Brooklyn, via NYC!
  2. I use Forumrunner and am having issues. A few days ago, I was getting Parse Errors, but it cleared up the next day. Today, I have been getting "That page doesn't exist" errors on every single thread I try to open! I have gone to other Forums and they work fine. What gives? I don't know whether it is a Forumrunner issue or RWG issue. Anyone else having problems today with that error?
  3. Avitt, Excellent tutorial. Thanks for sharing.
  4. Thanks for the info guys. I had always pondered the question. Now I consider myself lucky on the Gen OPD where the crown aligns 99% perfectly when screwed all the way down. On my SSD V2, to get it to align, I just unscrew the crown about a quarter of the way back out...just 'cuz I am that anal!!
  5. It's great to meet fellow members with a taste for modern furniture! My wife and I have a couple of Eames storage units, a Saarinen Womb Chair in a vintage Knoll red wool (vintage style reissue) and for our dining chairs, the classic Jacobsen bent wood chairs. Would love to hear what other members have, Mies Barcelona? Corbu? George Nelson? Nakashima?
  6. Thanks for the input. Everyone is certainly more than entitled to their opinions, and that's what I would enjoy hearing. Perhaps this will separate the purists from the aesthetes.
  7. This watch really is beautiful! I have a real soft spot for the 3-6-9 dial and vintage date cases... Do you or anyone here know where I could get those spring bars for my perpetual date? Thanks
  8. thought i'd try it out....on small 6.5" wrists no less!
  9. Newbie here, I live in NY but will be away on vacation and won't be able to make the GTG. There are a couple of places you all may or may not know about but would be interesting to visit to compare, salivate, or purchase vintage rollies (gens, perhaps frankens but you experts would know): Aaron Farber gallery just off of fifth avenue on 52nd street And there is a booth in the diamond district between 5th and 6th avenue on 47th street, north side toward the middle of the block, slightly closer to 6th avenue. Look for the deep red awnings in front of his window. He's got all sorts of 5513s, DRSD, etc. Almost too good to be true last time I looked a few weeks back, I wondered how many were actually Frankens or even whether this guy knows as much as the experts here. His inventory also changes frequently, but certainly seems to specialize in vintage subs/SDs. Enjoy.
  10. The pearl looks great IMHO. For what its worth, I bought an SSD v2 from another member of RWG who also did the epoxy pearl mod on it. There were two things that bugged me, it had too much of a "dome" appearance and, of course, had no lume. So based on what some other fellows had done, I ordered the #315-16660 replacement insert from Watchmaterial. It arrived yesterday and it took about 15 minutes to pop in this morning -- and it looks great. I popped off the bezel with the short blade of a swiss army knife at the 4 o'clock position and worked off the old bezel by pushing from the back side all around the diameter. I discovered the old bezel was attached via something like double stick tape, most of which remained on the old bezel and left a clean, non-sticky surface on the bezel itself. (As others have noted, the replacement bezel is a 1:1 perfect fit -- it sits slightly recessed into the bezel). So I placed a few tiny and careful drops of crazy glue all around the bezel, and set the new insert into it being careful to align the pearl with one of the "ridges" of the bezel. Experts on RWG may know more, but I tried looking at photos of gens to determine whether the pearl always aligns with the top of ridge or the valley, but was unable to fully conclude any consistency. All I know for sure was that the original insert was not aligned to anything. I am now one happy camper thanks to the wealth of SSD pearl and bezel insert info traded here. Thanks all!
  11. I also reside in NYC and need the same rep-friendly watchsmith recommendation. Thanks!
  12. Sorry to add this, I am unable to edit my original post: Barring any recommendations in NYC, I will gladly pay one of the experts in this forum to apply some of the waterproofing techniques found in RWG, pressure test, etc. who would like to help a fellow out. PM me if you feel so inclined. Thanks.
  13. Hi, Newbie here and I am so happy at finding such an incredible group of helpful and knowledgeable enthusiasts on this site! I just purchased my first rep, a very impressive Super Seadweller V2 from another RWG member. I wanted to have my 47th street watchsmith take a look at it to make sure that all gaskets are in place, silicon grease, tighten back, etc. just to make sure things are good before I take it swimming. Lo and behold, he would have none of it He obviously has not been on top of the recent improvements in reps, confirmed by some of the pressure tests our fellow members have conducted, so he wouldn't even look at it. Once I told him it was a rep, he just repeated over and over that it will not be water resistant! I don't believe he had any particular moral reason not to work on reps, but as soon as I mentioned "water", he fired back that no rep is water resistant. So any help would be greatly appreciated in recommendations for a "rep-friendly" watchsmith anywhere in Manhattan. The Seadweller has an Asian movement, so there may be a time in the future when I may put in an ETA movement. Thanks to everyone in advance....I really need to find someone!
