  1. Thanks Pugwash!!! Great tutorials on taking pics!!!
  2. Anyone want to chime in on whether a gen SD dial (2000-Present) will fit on an SSD V2 (from Andrew). I have been doing extensive research into the 5 minute markers on the gens and now I can't look at my watch anymore without having the dial glare back at me with every one of it's minute markers being the exact same size and width. I am beginning to see why so many members are on the constant hunt for the perfect rep of their favorite model. I figure that BK would be the definitive source since he has already had the crystals out on both the gen and rep for comparison photos (that was a nice read by the way).
  3. I have the same watch and switched out the pearl yesterday. I got a WatchMaterial insert from a member of this forum. It was an easy fix. Just pry the old pearl off with your finger nail and glue the new pearl in (I used liquid nails), making sure not to get any excess down in the bezel. Here is the link for the insert I used: http://www.watchmaterial.com/viewitem.asp?idProduct=362 Now if I could just gather up the courage to work on the CG's...
  4. Thanks for the rule of thumb (I mean pinky) P4GTR! I guess I wear my watches too tight. I absolutely hate when a heavy watch bangs around on my wrist bones. I am wearing an SSD and it is like a mini anvil. It needs to stay secure or it is going to do damage to my wrist.
  5. OK, this might seem like a really dumb question but I have noticed that in a lot of wrist shots posted on this forum, the watch is positioned very far forward on the person's wrist. I mean to the point that it would be painful to bend your wrist back for fear of the crown digging into the wrist. There is a "[censored]by" bone on the top part of the wrist near where the hand bends back and forth. I have always worn my watches just behind this bone (as in further up the wrist then all of these wrist shots). Is it just "good picture taking" to move the watch as far towards the fingers as possible? ..or is this the "proper" placement for a watch on the wrist? Here is an example (No disrespect to RCKH): http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=74099
  6. tr4driver: The first thing I did when I got it out of the box was to drop it into a pitcher of water. I figured that if it was going to be my "beater", then it would be getting wet all the time. It passed with flying colors. I read a review today of a saturation diver taking one of these and testing it "FOR REAL". Aside from some rusting spots, it did OK. Here is the link: http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...ller+saturation
  7. SSD V2 arrived today from Andrew. For a total of $303.00 I got the genuine ETA 2836-2 movement in a great looking watch! Now I need a camera so that I can post better pics than the web cam will allow. For the record, the etched crown at 6 o'clock is not that noticeable when you are wearing the watch. Also, it appears that they have addressed the earlier issues with the extension link coming undone and the link screws being stripped. (Edit) I read a couple of tutorials on this site from Pugwash and within 5 min I took this pic. Need to read up on the photography a lot more but I'd like to give a shout out to Pugwash for making this so enjoyable!
  8. Looks great! Congrats on your first rep! Can you see the crown engraving at 6 o'clock at arm's length? Also, how is the diver's extension? Does it feel loose or pop out by itself? Lastly, do you have any stripped screws on the bracelet? I keep checking outside to see if mine is here yet. I ordered the same watch on the 27th, so it should be here at any time...

  11. I thought one of the most important rules to adhere to was: NEVER wear a rep to an AD!!!..At least that is what people from this as well as three other forums keep stating. There is no need to draw attention to our little hobby. From the forum rules: [25] - Do not visit an AD (Authentic Dealer) with your replica watch and show it of as the real thing. If you do so, we are not interested in hearing about it. Such post will be deleted.
  12. I didn't know where else to post this so here goes.. I recently purchased a Seiko Orange Monster to use as a beater. I didn't like the rubber strap that came with it so I ordered some NATO straps from Maratac. Now I can't figure out which one I like better. This is the watch I will use for pool, lake, mountain biking. Which one do you guys like better?
  13. Alligoat...thanks again for the info! I wonder why they list the Euromariner on Eurotimez if it is not out yet...
  14. Thanks alligoat! I also read that the Noobmariner case is smaller than gen. I guess the choice (for now) is clear. The Euromariner is probably the best I can do out of the box for under $500. It also seems to have the best bracelet (Noob bracelet). Now when I go to Eurotimez site, it is difficult to know that I have selected the correct Euromariner as they have a few different models. The descriptions are not very good. For example: I go to Eurotimez > Eurotimez Catalog > Euromariner > Euro-Black 2008 All it shows is a picture and a link saying "web-mbk-euromariner-black-2008-040". Clicking on this link only brings up a flash animation with pictures of the watch. There is no description or pricing. Also, the watch shown has the engraved rehaut. From reading the Euromariner review I thought that Eurotimez was producing a variation of the Euromariner without this unsightly (IMHO) engraving. Plus doesn't that engraving also necessitate the watch to have the Maxi-Dial (in order to stay true to gen)? Where is the description for this watch so that I know I am ordering the ETA vs. ETA clone or Asian movement? I know there are additional models listed in the Dictionary section of this web site, but I still can't find the proper links in order to read the "web-mbk-euromariner-black-2008-040" description and order it. Once I get this cleared up, I would like to help other noobies on this forum by pointing them in the correct direction for the best "out of the box" rep so that this issue does not have to be re-hashed thereby bugging the crap out of members with post counts in the 1000's. Can anyone point me to the proper model number for a non Maxi-Dial/non engraved rehaut Euromariner with gen ETA on the Eurotimez web site? ...or, who would I pm if I just wanted to order this directly from the dealer?

That watch is the Shizznitt!!! I hope this new hobby of mine eventually takes me into this direction.
  16. "You're my boy, Blue!!" ..Thanks but I already have read that review and I know what it is made of and how much it costs. I was trying to get people to sound off on whether BK's watch is closer to gen than the Euromariner and to compare strengths and weaknesses in head to head fashion. I wonder what model BK starts out with in order to produce the BKMariner?
  17. If the new Euromariner (from Eurotimez) could be sourced with a gen ETA movement (which has been eluded to), would it be truer to gen than the BKMariner? ..and just to make it a little more interesting, lets take the CGs out of the discussion as I could easily get those shaved. I want the most accurate "out of the box" Sub (between these two). I am not going to get into the heavy-duty mods like sourcing a gen dial, bezel insert, crown, etc. I just want to know how far a $500 budget will go in procuring a great looking, long lasting, Sub rep. I have searched all of the forums and spent a good 20 hours reading on these two watches. Can one of you gurus out there give us a comparison of the two? Maybe Pros and Cons? Comparison shots? Features matrix? I have narrowed my Sub needs to these two (already have an SSD V2). My first rep purchased was the Trusty $218 Sub with a ETA 2824-2 movement. It is nice looking and feels well made but I should have just listened to the vets on this site and gone all out for one of the "premium" models. I like the bracelet and case but the pearl, hands, bezel insert and dial leave a little to be desired. I know this subject has been beat to the ground BUT the Euromariner IS new so I think it would be in the best interest of the community to objectively reevaluate the pecking order of these timepieces. Once this decision has been made, I can de-noob myself and start looking into the Omega's, B&R's, and IWC's!!!....So please help a (contributing) brotha out!
  18. OK, I think everyone is content now. I sent her the following message letting her know that I would not use my "Rolex Fraud Prevention Task Force" powers against her if she promised not to try and pass any more reps as gens in her listings. Here is an excerpt: "Let's just drop it. You are definitely not on my top ten list of people I want to upset. I just get into "work mode" when I see high dollar items (over $10,000.00) being moved around e-commerce channels. We are much more focused on pursuing the state-side distribution hubs of illicit merchandise, than tracking down end users. My advice to you is to be extremely cautious when buying/selling luxury items that carry a perceived/true value over $10,000.00. I would like to consider this matter closed." This whole experience has taught me a valuable lesson about messing with people. I will think twice before I do anything like this ever again. I really did not mean to scare her so bad.
  19. I would love a rep of the SUB 1000T. I wonder how hard it is and how long it would take to reverse engineer the case? I would imagine all they would have to do is buy a gen, take a bunch or measurements and feed those into a computerized milling machine. Crystal would be easy and I think the watch actually uses a ETA 2824 movement decorated by DOXA. Is the general gen buying population just not aware of the brand?
  20. Carl, I did contact eBay and reported the listing. She told me that eBay had taken it down and that I was the first person to seriously confront her re: the watch. That said, I do see your side of things and I'll admit that I was a bit childish in the way I handled the situation. I felt bad when she contacted me later that night with the following: "Mr. PXXX, thank you again. Am I in trouble with Ebay though? What do I do now? I need to sell my clothing to make ends meet around here...my son is in the baseball allstars and we have to travel to tournaments this summer....please dont close down my ebay..." I think I took it a little too far.
  21. Carls, not trying to start anything, but why do you think that? The eBay listing was extremely shady. If you knowingly seek a rep then you go into it with fairly good disclosure as to what you are getting. This listing was alluding to the fact that it could be a gen, thus misleading the customer. Maybe I am missing something...I am all ears.
  22. I was just having a little fun...you should see the emails that have gone back and forth. They are hilarious. I guess the point is I don't have a problem with reps, I love them. I just didn't like the shady way she was going about it.
  23. Here is the last email I received from the eBay poster..LOL.. "Wait a minute, now you are stating that I am selling black market nike clothing? Are you for real? These are my own clothing. You have me all wrong. Another thing, if I knew that I was selling a fake watch, do you really think that I would be so dumb to make the mistakes that you are accusing me of? I just received this watch, we dont wear expensive watches around here, and we dont need it. I bought a nice box that I thought went with the watch, I bought some manuals for it, simple as that. I dont know anything about these stupid watches, for gods sake. I am not a criminal, Im a homemaker with 4 kids sitting in a rural town, not a new yorker trying to scam people." OMG..I can't believe that I am wasting my Sunday doing this....
  24. I emailed her stating that I worked for Rolex's Fraud Prevention Task Force and that I had been given her personal information from eBay's fraud division. You will note that the item has been taken down...
  25. Does it have the 28800 bph Asian movement? Will they offer an option to switch to an ETA movement?
