  1. Hmm - I suggest you check your literary references. 1. The Mary Celeste was found abandoned 2. Right up until the day RWG1 went down it was a VERY active board - maybe someone should have told the regular members that it was abandoned? 3. RWG1.1 (Redux) has picked up 120 members in the space of a week, who have, between them, made around 2500 posts. Also hardly the definition of an abandoned ship, although time will tell. I like rwg.cc a great deal. It's the best of the 'serious' watch boards by far and extremely well run, which is why I continue to be a platinum member here. However, there is room for other approaches. I'd suggest you try to understand that some people may just enjoy having somewhere to let their hair down. Hey - better all that noise is over there rather than messing up the bin here Not meaning to have more than a friendly dig at you, Cornerstone, but really......
  2. We do something like that on the re-booted RWG1. iPB has a facility to prevent search bots viewing certain forums - I've set things up there so that they cannot access the whole of the main forum - only the 'guest' forum, which is seen before you sign up, plus a few other select areas where appropriate.
  3. Hi all, I'm the admin over on RWG1.1 and it appears that a number of people have been having difficulty signing up due to the Captcha validation system (thanks to Kenberg for letting me know what the problem was). Anyhow - anyone who has tried to sign up but has failed due to Captcha validation problems has now had their accounts approved manually. In addition, the Captcha has been turned off, so hopefully the problem won't arise again. The system has emailed those affected, but I thought I'd post a heads-up here for anyone that slips through the net as it were - you should now be able to just log in - no validation needed for those who have tried before. Thanks for your patience, all!
  4. I go through US customs wearing a rep at least once or twice per year - and have done for the last 5 or 6 years. Never had a problem - in fact nobody has ever even looked at the watch closely. My only precaution is that I tend only to take the watch I'm wearing - I don't pack any others. That's probably unnecessary too, but I'm paranoid by nature, ask anybody
  5. Folks, I'm the admin of RWG1.1 - aka the new "animal house of watch forums" (and no, I'm not Blade masquerading under another nom-de-plume ) I just wanted to say a BIG thankyou to the admins and mods here (especially TT) for their support and encouragement - AND for allowing us to make a public announcement about our existence. Thanks again, guys - you're tops. Greg_r admin: replica-watch-guide.net
  6. Sadly we were unable to recover the old database, so it's effectively a new forum. The guest forum is the only one visible until you're signed in - the others will then appear
  7. erk - for you I'll turn the captcha off. Hope to see you there
  8. The rim of the HE valve on the gen is orange on the PVD version and black on the SS. There's a 1:1 PVD version too (I have one, purchased in Shenzhen by a friend fairly recently - same movement), but it doesn't seem to have filtered through to the major dealers yet. It is, however, quite a bit better than the cheapie 21J version that has been around for a while. The price seems excessive for an 'Asian ETA', though - I would have expected something closer to $180 based on what I paid for the one I have.
  9. Great pics of a great watch. Also, the best thread title in recent memory.
  10. Interesting fact: Women, as a generall rule, have better hearing than men at high-frequencies - whatever the age range
  11. Ack.... sounds really rough. Be careful out there!
  12. Be wary about the accuracy of this kind of test. The problem is that low quality loudspeakers used in TVs, computers etc often have miserable high-frequency performance. On a good stereo at home, I can just hear a tone of around 16k generated by a professional quality signal generator (unusually good for my age, I'll be 50 next month). On the iMac speakers here at work, which start rolling off above about 12k, I can only manage 14k generated by the test you posted.
  13. Oh yeah - it's a nightmare. There's lawyers & my own insurers involved now.
  14. Do you mean the Tag or the Mercedes? Should have the Tag tomorrow evening. The Merc is going to take a bit longer - I'm currently taking the company insurers to court.......
  15. No, it's me that's planning to buy a Mercedes... Btw looks like my Tag has got here too - only problem is that there was no-one in to receive it, so gotta collect it from the sorting office tomorrow. Oh well...
  16. Well, despite the fact that Hublots ain't my thing, that's one hell of a watch for the dough. Enjoy it!
  17. Damn - that looks good for the price. Can't wait to get mine!
  18. I'm hoping that means my Tag will have arrived today....
  19. For me it would be this: Grand Carrera Calibre 8 RS GMT
  20. Hang in there, Omni - it's happening. There will be an announcement before too much longer.
  21. I seem to remember something like this in there somewhere......
