  1. Thanks for the link omgiv. I saw the one where the dots were referred to as donuts. Its nice to read people like steve m and mark g chime in that they have seen them and they are legit albeit pretty dart. I have also found where they are referred to as a 24-701 and possibly the first variant triplock. If the tube is bad I have a rep tube for a 24-702.

  2. I just picked up what I think is a pretty cool buy on ebay. I got a lot of parts that came off of a late 70's sea dewller. The lot came with the original 24-702 crown & tube along with its T-39 Crystal. I have only seen this kind of crown one other time. This 702 with gen tube goes with the other gen 24-702 crown and rep tube I have. Any info on this crown is greatly appreciated.

  3. So I am trying to build a 1675 using a gen case and dial that I picked up. I have run into a problem, the supplier that I used for the zodiac 75b movement sent me a zodiac 86 instead and now says they do not have a 75b. I had purchased a gen gmt hand and gen silver date wheel that I was planning on using with the 75b but since it looks like I will not be able to source one I have wasted a good amount of money on those parts.

I am hoping that someone here can point me in the right direction on where I can get a low beat gmt movement that will work with the case so that I can get this project completed. All the parts are with pbdad now so hopefully I can sort this out quickly.

    Thanks

    Joe

  4. I recently got a SSD V2 and want to do some mods. I have a gen 24-703 crown, tube, and a bk overlay I want to install. I would also like to get the crown guards done. I had thought of having the lugs drilled, installing old tritium dial and transforming it into a 16660 but I don't want all my rolexs to be vintage. I would actually like one to glow in the dark so I am gonna stick with a 16600 luminova model. I need some advice on upgrading the dial and insert. I would love to go gen but right now funds are low due to having alot invested in a few other Frankens.

My question is, who/where to get an aftermarket dial and insert that is closer to gen than the stock one used on the ssd v2. Also, is there anything else that I should consider doing.

    Thanks

  5. Thanks blix and Ubi, that helps alot. It also means that I am no closer to getting a crown and tube set for a 5512 and 1665 build, lol.

I have a yuki 24-7000-0 tube on the way. There are 24-700 crowns on ebay that I can buy and use this combo on the 5512.

That still leaves me with finding a 24-7020-0 for the 24-702 triplock crown I have and am wanting to use on a 1665 GW.

    :nea:

  6. I would appreciate it if someone could help clarify the vintage crown and tubes available. I have an older 24-702 slim crown and I just purchased a 24-700 tube from Yuki with the hope that it will work. If not is the 24-700 tube the one for the crown that does not have any dots on it? Any insight on where to get a tube for a 24-702 if the 24-700 will not work? Is the no dot crown correct on 5512/3 models?

    Thanks

  7. I had asked for a picture with the date written on a piece of paper like was suggested and the email correspondence ended. I am sure this is a scam. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. Oh and the marks on the bezel should be able to be seen in the pic of it in the box. I am thinking two different watches.

  8. Here are some more pics that the seller just sent me. She claims that the watch is her fathers and she is not comfortable removing the bracelet or caseback. She also says that the watch does come with the original box and paperwork. She is suggesting we use a payment and shipping company called freightco. Is anyone familiar with this sercvice as I do not know how it functions.

I asked her to send a pic with todays date on a piece of paper shown with watch.

  9. I just found a Rolex 5512 for sale for only 1700. The owner says it is still available and I am waiting on some better pics. I am afraid to have him take it somewhere to get it verified on the off chance that whoever is performing the inspection may try and steal the sale. I asked for pic of movement, dial, engravings between lugs. Is there any other pics that I should ask for to make a decision without him taking it somewhere. I will post the better pics when I get them. Sucks becauce I just dumped a good amount of money in parst for me 1675 build and I may have to sell them off to fund this purchase.

  10. All things considered, I would have gone with a gen movement, but (assuming the dial/hands/datewheel fit the movement) what you have looks good so far

I would have much rather had a gen movement but I was not looking to over double what I have invested..............unless you are trying to offer me a deal I cannot pass up

  11. My jorney is finally coming to an end........ I have finally aquired all the parts that I need to complete my build. I am still waiting on a few to get here in the mail but the search is over. I will post pics of all the parts that I will be using for the build.

First up is a gen case. Dated to early 70's with non pcg. I did not want to build a Cornino due to the fact that in reality if I were to own a PCG 1675 it would not see to much wrist time. I am building this to wear it and enjoy. This case came under some scrutiny after I had posted some picture here due to some corrosion on the caseback. However I was able to obtain it for a price that I felt was to good to pass up. I have located a few gen casebacks to use in the event that the corrosion proves to be to much. The "stuff" on the case itself was just some dried glue that was removed. The crystal, tube, and crown are all original to the case.

The second part of the build is a gen dial that I picked up and is what started the whole journey for the build. The dial is matte and is correct for a non pcg case. I think it is good overall condition and I am happy with the patina.

Here is the movement that is going to power the project. This is what I had the biggest problem figuring out. I really did not want to use an a21 2813 movement in a project that I have invested a good deal of money in. In reading through other members builds I came across chiman12's project. He used the Zodiac 75B movement which is a true GMT movement that has a bph closer to gen. The thing that sold me about the movement though is the fact that this movement will accept a gen GMT hand and date wheel. I was able to source a serviced movement for an online retailer in India. I found a gen tritium GMT hand on VRF, that has the correct patina to match the dial being used. Once again staying with period correctness on the watch I went with the large hand as that is what is appropriate for a matte dial non pcg watch. I also found a gen silver date wheel with flat top 3, and open 6 / 9 that hopefully will work with the movement. For the hour, min, sec hands I plan on using Clark, Yuki, or Wholesaleoutlet, and have them aged to match gen GMT and dial.

Next up is the bezel and insert. The bezel assembly was purchased from wholesaleoutlet and included the retaining ring. The bezel itself I will have aged to match the finish of the case. The pepsi bezel pictured will not be used as I am planning on using will be a gen faded black one that I picked up on rolexforums. I am actually thinking of sourcing a gen faded pepsi insert and selling the black one as in my mind the pepsi is what makes a 1675 a 1675.

The final part is the bracelet. I found a gen 62510H Jubilee bracelt with 555 end pieces. Idealy I think that the end pieces should be 550 but the 555 will work. The bracelet is dated to the same period as the case and bracelet.

In closing I would like to thank everyone that helped me out with information and advice on this build. It has proven to be much more involved than I originally had expected when I bought the gen dial and decided to complete the build. Hopefully the hard part of sourcing parts is over and the assembly process goes fairly easy. I am not holding my breath though, lol. From a monetary stand point I have invested more than I originally planned. I do feel that it is an amount that I could recoup, however the watch would probably have to be stripped and parts sold as their value is probably greater than the whole. I hate to think about it as I have much invested in the build but a gen 1675 is in my future!

  12. I have been looking into the Rolex 6508 but I am having a hard time finding any info on it. I have read that it is similar to the 6538 but have also seen that it is the 5508? Can someone please let me know if this is a big crown sub model?

    Thanks
